Event Description

Hello All-

I'm giving a 3-day workshop for the Ocean Reef Art League in Key Largo, Florida January 5-7, 2011.

In a 3-day workshop, I get to cover more information in even greater detail and all workshop participants get more work made and more experimenting done as well.

The hands-on workshop will be an introduction to various images transfer techniques for any kind of claywork. Monoprinting, screening and relief printing onto plaster and clay slabs will be covered. You will learn how to do these techniques on their own and how to combine them as well to come up with complex images and designs. I will also demonstrate how to make any clay body into a casting slip and go over deflocculation and specific gravity. The casting slip is used for the monoprinting process, but can be used for any of your slip regular casting projects too.
Images, designs and text will be used as a means of personal expression to create compositions, designs or patterns. The clay surfaces will be used as canvasses for exploration printed imagery, color and text.

I will demo how to put an image into screens 3 different ways; (1) PhotoEZ screens,(2) Mask-Ease and (3)Drawing Fluid/Screen Filler. I will demo 3 kinds of relief printing options; (1) linoleum, (2) Easy Cut and (3) Balsa Foam. We will make monoprints on plaster bats and use all the previous mentioned techniques for direct printing on clay slabs for handbuilding as well. These techniques can also be used for vessels as well. I will cover a few other things as well, but this gives you a sense of the basics.

Go to the website www.oceanreefartleague.com or call 305-367-2359 if you are interested in signing up for the workshop. You can also contact me directly about any details of the workshop and what we will do. I promise it will be fun and filled with information with lots of opportunities to experiment. Amaco will be providing a rainbow of colors for the workshop as well at no additional cost to you.

All levels of experience welcomed.

take care

Paul
