Cloisonné Enameling with James Carter
April 18-22, 2011 from 9 am - 5 pm $950 + $65 kit
Cloisonné enameling is one of the most beautiful and expressive techniques available to jewelers. Learn classical techniques from a nationally recognized artist/jeweler. Learn to shape and apply intricate ribbons of wire to a base, creating cells to hold enamel. Learn to prepare enamel and apply it in multiple layers of color; fire and refine your work; and polish the surface in preparation for setting into jewelry. Participants at all levels leave with several sample projects plus a wealth of information and tons of shortcuts. .
Prerequisite: Fabrication 1 or experience.
James Carter will also teach Metalsmithing for Enamels, April 16-17, 2011.
James Carter is a master goldsmith who specializes in cloisonne enameling. Retired after 30 years of making and selling his own work, James is the recipient of an Artist Fellowship from the Florida State Council of the Arts and three Awards of Excellence from the American Craft Council. James has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and a Master of Fine Arts degree. He lives and works in Pensacola, Florida.
