Interdisciplinary. Community. Advocacy. Humor.
Venetia Dale wrote about her project:
Relatives examines ways artists negotiate jewelry as format and jewelry as idea, process, material, and form. The exhibiting artists all have formal training in jewelry/metalsmithing and continue to be influenced by these techniques, processes, and conversations in their current studio practices. Collectively, these artists illustrate the expansive paths and outcomes being pursued within the field, ranging from jewelry and objects to sculpture and installation. Each exhibiting artist will display both wearable jewelry as well as other artworks that engage the periphery of this discipline- one informing the other. The selection of works will create a visual dialogue between varying intersections and overlaps of jewelry/object, object/sculpture, sculpture/installation, installation /jewelry.
