You can find my work in the part of the exhibition named 'Badgingham' the project generated by the MA students at BCU School of Jewellery.
This exhibition explores how contemporary craftspeople respond to ideas about slowing down how we work and what we produce, and the importance of contributing to a more sustainable society. The Slow Movement, to which the Slow Food movement is connected, began as a reaction to our fast-paced consumer culture. It calls for more local production, valuing where things come from, and creating communities and a sense of belonging through being part of a shared activity. We think that the crafts have always done this. In this exhibition you can see how makers from different countries show in their work and making processes, the value of taking time.
Included in this exhibition is a giant wool hanging that will be partly created by visitors, and a family activity guide to find out more about the exhibits. The exhibition also includes film and photography.
The artists in the exhibition are: Judith van den Boom & Gunter Wehmeyer, Gary Breeze, Neil Brownsword, Sonya Clark, Rebecca Early, Ken Eastman & Dawn Youll, David Gates, Matthew Harris, Amy Houghton, Esther Knobel, Sue Lawty, Heidrun Schimmel, Paul Scott & Ann Linnemann, Elizabeth Turrell, Shane Waltener & Cheryl McChesney Jones.
Also included is a project working with local Afro-Carribean elders at Wightwick Manor, Wolverhampton with artist Linda Florence, and a project with MA students from the BCU School of Jewellery.
Taking Time is a nationally touring Craftspace exhibition curated by Helen Carnac and launching in partnership with Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
