My name is Sue Szabo and I have really just started exploring alternative materials recently. Most of my work has been with metals, stones and enamels. This thread is really inspiring, some really great stuff. I'll post a photo of a piece I made with cut out parts of a Japanese apple soda can that I got in a sushi restaurant. When they brought it to the table I thought, hmmm, great graphic, I'll have to make jewelry out of this.
I love the, "Jewellery made from my rubbish". I think it would help with the reactions I get sometimes from "mean" people who call my work crap. I don't argue with them, because it is made from my very own crap (or rubbish) and I just respond with a thank you. Never thought of just putting it out on a card before...CRAP! by Stevie B. has such a nice ring to it :)
“While striving to incorporate fashion and function in my body of work, Joe’s was created. Reflecting on the glamor once held by tobacco use, I pulled imagery from vintage cigarette advertisements. Once used to seduce the consumer, I take this now taboo subject matter and place it over the belt as a means of advertising and seduction of both the product and body. This reminds my audience of the cultural change that has evolved into the disapproval of tobacco usage and advertising.”
"Victoria, and everyone, I only realized recently (within the past year at most) that if I started a post that I could delete the post, and or a comment so don't feel bad.
Going back to Victoira's comment about shunning: My daughter…"
"To address One of Harriet's comments about deleting the original post to bring a quick end to the tirade, I didn't know one could! If there is an incident, where I started the post, I'll do just that. I was mistakenly under the…"
"The point that I would like to make clear is that we can ALL take responsibility for action.
Even though MU or any other site has administrators, if you started a discussion you can delete the discussion or an individual post. You have the power of…"
"The incident everyone is demurring about happened on the Facebook site Metalsmith's Unite. Not sure why we are so circumspect in just saying this out loud. MU grew in size and notoriety rapidly and was a hot bed of bad online behavior, marked…"
"I'm pretty sure I know the online incident you are referring to Brigitte, it really shocked me too. Like Peggy, I enjoyed the technical discussions and information exchanged, but was always very confused by the odd and rather constant…"
"Everyone listening to this post by Brigitte also has the power to make the change they want to see. If you see a comment that you think might be misunderstood, you could ask for clarification or correction from the writer.
If a post your started has…"
"I did not see the post that Brigitte (and some others) have referred to, but have noticed this phenomena on several discussion forums. It is very unfortunate that this situation seems to repeatedly happen. There are discussion forums that I…"
I witnessed a bunch of troublesome ‘discussions’ this past week. Not on crafthaus and not directed at me personally, but troublesome nevertheless. They also weren’t real discussions either, as in: a respectful exchange of opinions where one side hears the other out. It…
