The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

A Crafts Council showcase presented at Tresor Craft fair in Basel, 21-24 September 2017.

Seven artists with an innovative approach to materials have been selected to show new works, each using their chosen materials to communicate ideas and research, whether it be commenting on the growing refugee crisis, the availability of raw materials in the future, exploring new ways of dying textiles in a sustainable way, creating pattern or discovering new forms for furniture. The New Materiality is the third showcase of the A Future Made programme and will take place at the TRESOR contemporary craft fair.

The Crafts Council stand at Tresor will be designed by the London-based practice Julia with graphics by London designers BCMH. http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/what-we-do/the-new-materiality/?utm...

The Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) is looking for its next Editor to oversee the editorial direction of both Metalsmith magazine and a new publication, Metalsmith Tech magazine, as well as magazine-related content on SNAG’s website. http://www.snagmetalsmith.org/

Metalsmith gives you a front row seat in the world of studio art and design in contemporary jewelry and metalsmithing. It’s smart, beautiful and provocative, and guaranteed to inspire and invigorate. Coverage spans contemporary makers, artists in their studios, edgy work, limited production jewelry, fashion, objects, Hollowware, collectors’ collections, and related content.

Metalsmith explores, analyzes, promotes and documents excellence and innovation in the field of jewelry and metalsmithing. Pursuing this goal, SNAG produces and oversees the direction and content of this significant resource for the metalsmithing field. The editorial content of Metalsmith emphasizes contemporary activities, makers, and ideas and incorporate supportive content, relevant critical issues and the exchange of viewpoints. For over 35 years, Metalsmith has brought the best in the field of jewelry and metals to the forefront, and we look forward to the magazine’s future.

Metalsmith Tech will be a new SNAG produced magazine that focuses on techniques, processes, educational philosophies and ideas, professional development topics, and new technology in the field of jewelry and metalsmithing. The magazine will include both contemporary and historical references, highlighting a diverse range of approaches to jewelry design and metalwork, including professional practices, creative influences, and new trends.

The Editor position will be a part-time staff position to start November 1, 2017. It becomes full-time April 1, 2018. This position works remotely from his/her/their home. A full job description can be found here.

https://scottish-gallery.co.uk/exhibitions/concentus
Concentus presents new work from willow sculptor Lizzie Farey. Latin for ‘harmony’ Concentus includes intricate structures that capture a still moment; a distillation and order. Calm after a storm. Intimate forms provide a hint of the process of creation. We can see and even feel points of tension in the work. Our eye can follow the artist’s hand, the choices made in twisting and turning this flexible medium.
