The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

We are delighted to be hosting the exhibition Hidden Treasures, revealing the skills of the Fellows of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (IPG), opening on 6th April 2018 at the Goldsmiths’ Centre.

Here at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, our team and the IPG want to make you and your students aware of this fantastic exhibition and the accompanying event aimed at students Hidden Treasures: Surgery with the Fellows on 2nd May 2018 from 6pm – 8.30pm.

This event will enable you or your students to ask burning manufacturing questions, as part of a relaxed round table debate, to seven established craftspeople, all Fellows of the IPG. The panel of experts and their chosen specialisms include:

  • Darren Sherwood of D Sherwood Design Ltd – Computer Aided Design (CAD)
  • Steve Wager – Silversmithing
  • Apollonius Nootenboom of Hean Studio Ltd – Casting
  • Phil Horton – Mounting
  • Russell Lownsbrough of Waxcarving.co.ukWax Carving and Sculpture
  • Niall Paisley – Setting
  • Jennifer Bloy – Design

Tickets for the event are £10 (including a glass of wine or a beer) and you can now book via the following link: http://www.goldsmiths-centre.org/whats-on/whats-on-hidden-treasures...

We would be most grateful if you could pass on the event information to your students, so they can be a part of this unique evening, and please do get in touch if you have any questions or require social media or e-newsletter content for your marketing team.

Best wishes,

Lisa Cain
Jewellery Teacher

After years of practicing traditional silver work, Lisa Cain established her own jewellery school offering workshops in a variety of techniques, including contemporary silver clay work. Most of Lisa’s own jewellery work is inspired by imaginary folklore, myths and legends. She is passionate about fostering and encouraging creativity in others through her jewellery courses.

Recycled Narratives by Elizabeth Shaw

Exhibition  /  06 Mar 2018  -  31 Mar 2018
Recycled Narratives is an exhibition of contemporary jewellery and objects created by Elizabeth Shaw between 2012 and 2018. Many of the pieces have been exhibited internationally and this is the first time they have been shown together. Individually and collectively, the works trace Shaw’s interest in simple mechanics, repair, found objects and the narratives evoked by materials.
