The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Hannah Gallery presents an exhibition with Shengyi Chen, winner of the Klimt02 JPlus Emerging Talent Award 2018, showcasing 16 pieces that remind us of the capacity of jewellery to be a vehicle for strong ideas and political attitudes.

His works are bold and bright symbols of everyday life with a sarcastic and dark proportion. His political examination of the 2017 events and the translation of it into jewellery make us wonder how such negative feelings and such, for many of us painful experiences can look so appealing and meanwhile challenging our thoughts on this events. The collection is executed in an exceptional way of displaying Shengyi's design and craftsmanship.

Modern reason has created barriers for elegant art. Art lacks the opportunity to communicate with the general public outside the elite. That’s how everything started, I want to talk to the audience directly in a unique language - Jewellery. I see my work as a sharp knife, a knife that cuts the society. what is inside the society? what is surrounding us? I am not a butcher, but I am more like an anatomist who is thirsty for the truth. As an artist, every piece of my work is a question I asked. Every thought of me is a process of refracting the outside world... says Shengyi Chen.

"Adults who make more frequent visits to libraries, arts events or cultural sites tend to have better health and well-being than those who visit infrequently.

So culture plays a big part in making us healthier and happier people. But it also provides some of the answers to complex questions around the future of employment and productivity.

Creativity is increasingly recognised as a vital skill by employers and educators alike. In many ways, it is the most future proof skill we can have."
