The Association for Contemporary Jewellery
is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.
Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.
We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Open Exhibition 2012: Resistance - Call for Appliactions
Thursday 21 June -Thursday 26 July 2012
Artists and craftspeople of all disciplines and abilities are invited to take part in Cranleigh Arts Centre’s annual Open Exhibition. The competition presents an opportunity for artists to submit their work for display in the art centre’s Gallery for critique by a guest panel of experienced arts professionals. The chosen theme for this year is ‘Resistance’. The winner will be awarded an exhibition of their work in the Gallery. After the judges have announced their winner the public will have the chance to choose their favourite artist from the Gallery. This year Ochre Print Studio will be offering the Open Vote winner a place on their Introduction to Printmaking course with 1 year free membership for use with their open access facilities.
Deadline for applications: Friday 8 June 2012, 4.30pm

festival of crafts – last chance to apply!

This annual event is a major craft festival showcasing over 70 leading designer makers. The festival is recognised by Arts Council South East as one of the premier craft events in the region. Applications are welcome from makers producing original work. The show offers opportunities to well established craft practitioners as well as first time exhibitors and graduates. The selection process aims to offer visitors a variety of contemporary craft by innovative makers.

The Creative Toolbox Series: DESIGN SCIENCE! will take place on May 9th from 6:00 – 8:00pm in Room 102 at the Wishcamper Center at the University of Southern Maine's Portland campus. Parking is free.
USM Professor Raphael DiLuzio (www.raphaeldiluzio.com) and Joseph S. Giordano from Synecticsworld (www.synecticsworld.com), Cambridge, MA will be discussing design science in relationship to businesses, a cross-discipline method for individuals to dynamically engage in collaborative groups for creative problem stating and solving.
Design Science draws from the core synectics, visual and process thinking into a combined theoretical approach, tool set and coherent cognitive method. Elements of all these, especially design and visual thinking are innate aspects of how we perceive the world. Unfortunately, both design and visual thinking are neither developed nor nurtured as we grow from childhood to adulthood. Many aspects of our life require visual thought, and design is directly or indirectly a part of many disciplines or field of study.
This will be a really interesting evening with great speakers you won't want to miss!!

The Crafts Council’s goal is to make the UK the best place to make, see, collect and learn about contemporary craft. The Crafts Council’s Development Manager specialises in individual giving to maximise income by developing and extending its current fundraising strategy. The post-holder will also undertake some elements of fundraising work with Trusts and Foundations.
