Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Supporting Fresh Talent at New Designers

New Designers is the UK's most important graduate design exhibition, showcasing over 3,000 of the most talented emerging jewellery and silverware designers.

The Goldsmiths’ Company continue their support of emerging UK talent by presenting two prestigious awards at the event – the New Designers Jewellery Award and Silversmithing Award. In addition, the Assay Office are also proud to support these designers and help to develop their career by presenting the award winners with free registration and £200 worth of credit for their hallmarking account.

This year we will be manning a stand to showcase our support to the trade, which includes apprenticeships, bursaries, training, Educational seminars and reduced registration rates for students.

We are delighted to be able to offer our subscribers a discount on the standard ticket price! Tickets can be purchased in advance for just £9* instead of £14.50 on the door. Book online now at www.newdesigners.com quoting ND620

*£1.50 booking fee applies to tickets purchased in advance, offer expires 26 June 2013.

Visit us at the 'Art in Action' Festival

Come along and see our live hand-marking and assaying demonstrations at this year’s 'Art in Action' festival.

'Art in Action' is one of the longest running festivals of fine art and master craftsmanship in the UK. This year it will be showcasing 400 demonstrating artists, designer makers, teachers, musicians and performers. Disciplines include painting, sculpture, glass, woodwork, textiles, ceramics, metalwork and jewellery. It is held in the grounds of Waterperry House, Oxfordshire from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 July.

Our stand will be in the Jewellery marque amongst some very talented craftspeople. As well as our live demonstrations we will also have fun activities and giveaways for the children. Please do come along and say hello.

Opportunity to have your designs converted into 3d CAD files and/or printed on a 3d printer, Free 1-2-1 Advice Sessions, Wednesday 26th June
This session follows the same format as the manufacturing 1-2-1 sessions. It is aimed at designers keen to explore 3D design.
There are several possibilities that you can explore with “it is 3D” on this day:

You have a design, or an idea for a design, but you do not use 3D CAD. How do you convert your idea into a 3D file which can then be printed or machined?
You have a physical object which you want to scan. How do you go about it?
You have a 3D design which you want to print. How / where do you get it printed?

Meetings will take place on a 1-2-1 basis with Martin Stevens and Trupti Patel of “it is 3D Ltd”. As well as offering advice, “it is 3D” also offers a low cost service to Hidden Art designers. We will ensure that your designs are protected.

For further information see here where you will also find details on how to register.

Stephanie Ray

Stephanie's jewellery designs are a direct result of her love of clean lines and simple forms.

This paisley collection is totally inspired by Indian art and textiles and the complexity of henna drawings. Most pieces are oxidised giving them the matt black finish, a look that contrasts beautifully with the rich gold leaf and gives a neat frame to house the ebony that lies beneath the gold. Using ebony as a base for the gold leaf offers an undulating surface and texture that brings out a luscious quality in the gold. Paisley forms mimic the Asian influence and colourful gem stones and pearls add the final accent to the whole "look".

The collection is delicate, feminine and has a "must have" feel. Please note. Any pieces with ebony and gold must be treated with care and not subjected to water.

Hello lovely makers,

Sorry for the mass email, we've had an urgent request from the Lord Mayor's Celebration event, they're looking for makers to run stalls at next weekend's event, 1st & 2nd June, this event will be held in Gloucester Green both 1st & 2nd and a second location in Bonn Square on the 1st June only.

They are looking for about five makers for both Saturday and Sunday in Gloucester Green and a couple in Bonn Square.

As the event is for two days traders can choose to trade for the two days or one, per day is £50. So far they have makers selling stained glass, lino prints and stationery, vintage bags and scarfs.

If you are interested please let me know and I'll pass on your details to the organisers of the Lord Mayor's Celebration.

Best wishes,
Michelle
