Autonomatic are working collaboratively with the Crafts Council,  i-Dat, University of Plymouth, and Watershed Bristol to deliver 3 craft and technology residencies running from Jan - March 2013. Deadline for applications, 9am Mon 22nd October.

WORLD CAFÉ LIVE

World Café is a welcoming, creative and lively way of bringing people together to share ideas. Tapas is a Spanish way of eating that brings people together and encourages conversation.

World Café Live will combine both traditions - sparkling conversation and great food, catered by Earl Alfresco, Winchester.

Facilitated by Professor Bill Lucas; with contributions from Laura Ellen Bacon; Alice Kettle, creator ofLooking Forwards to the Past, and Joseph Hartley, winner of the New Designer of the Year award 2012. Joseph will create a unique addition to the World Café Event using flour, wood, clay and cloth; exploring his interest in the similarities between design and food and between materials and ingredients.

The morning facilitated by Professor Alice Kettle, textile artist. Presentations from Deirdre Figueiredo, MBE, Director Craftspace and Rachel Lichtenstein, oral historian and writer. Followed by advice and guidance from professional mentors, by choosing from 3 sessions:

1. Craft portfolio and mentoring
2. Writing about craft
3. Building audiences for your work and social media and networking.

Contributors include a-n the artists information company; Timandra Gustafson, arts and heritage specialist;Hen Norton, co-founder Wedidthis.org; Professor Simon Olding, Craft Study Centre.

Simon Taylor, Head of Learning, Ikon Gallery; How to support your practice through residencies and public art commissions.

Rachel Lichtenstein, Oral Historian and Writer; Rachel can offer advice and support on: preparing work for publication, public speaking, organising an exhibition or event, putting together a proposal for a large project.

Deirdre Figueiredo, MBE, Director, Craftspace; Deirdre has curatorial and production experience of commissioning artists for exhibition, public art, residencies and for participatory/public engagement projects. She has been a selector for craft fairs and exhibitions including Origin, Lustre and Nottingham Castle Open. 

Liz Whitehead, Director, Fabrica; Liz's experience working with artists with an applied arts focus at Fabrica, advising artists on working on a larger scale, makeing an impact, the practicalities of working in a gallery space.

Timandra Gustafson, Arts and heritage specialist; Timandra is a visual arts specialist with experience in strategic planning, support for artists in developing their business, commissioning in the public realm and heritage sites, fundraising and audience development.

MAKER RESIDENCIES

Deryn Relph. 'Winnie Chair'

The Making It project presents two twelve month residencies for makers at Making Space. Makers will have time to reflect and formulate their thinking and approach to their practice and to explore how the craft of making is linked to ways of looking at and valuing craft. Making Space will support each maker in developing events, which could take the form of an exhibition or installation, and talks and workshops to engage peers and public.

The first studio award has been made to Deryn Relph, knit designer, who will take up residence from 1st September.

Entries Invited -   "Winter Wonders"  - 9 Nov - 2 Jan Artists and makers are invited to submit entries for a selling exhibition to be held at Obsidian Art Gallery in Stoke Mandeville, Bucks    We are inviting entries for our upcoming Christmas exhibition - "Winter Wonders".   This exhibition is loosely themed around WINTER and CHRISTMAS - be it just the feel, the colours, or the subject or theme, and we welcome work from any British makers & artists working in any medium. We are also looking for hand-crafted CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS.    If in doubt about the suitability of your work just email or call.   No entry fee or hanging fee. The gallery commission is 45% on sales of original art and 50% on sales of reproduction prints & cards. All work must be for sale and the artist must be based in the UK.   Entry Deadline : Wednesday 10 October The exhibition runs from Friday 9 November to Wednesday 2 January. Hand-In dates for accepted work : Sunday 4 November or Monday 5 November.

Project Space: Call for applications

Applications are now open for the Project Space, an alternative exhibiting space at COLLECT 2013, taking place at the Saatchi Gallery, London from 10-13 May 2013.

For the third consecutive year, the Project Space will present an alternative exhibiting space on the second floor of the Saatchi Gallery as part of COLLECT: The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects. 

The Project Space provides an opportunity to present exceptional works to high-profile collectors, curators, journalists and other UK and international sector professionals primarily from the museum sector. 

Applications are open for creative proposals from individual artists or those working collaboratively, which explore the breadth of contemporary making today.

How to apply:
Full information is supplied in the application information pack, which can be downloaded below:

The Crafts Council invites applicants to submit proposals for floor space with an indication of their desires for display which will be discussed and agreed prior to confirmation. Applicants must supply full biographical information, CV and supplementary information with their proposal.

Fees: 
• Application fee: £70 (incl. VAT)
• Floor space is priced at £270 (+VAT) per square metre 
• Display elements are charged to the exhibitor depending on requirements 
• Compulsory catalogue entry: £170 (+ VAT)
