The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Take part in a-n’s and The Paying Artists Working Group’s new sector-wide survey to collect essential data and produce a benchmark for Exhibition Payment.

The Exhibition Payment Survey 2018 is the next step in securing fair payment for artists and the latest focus of a-n’s Paying Artists Campaign which established sectoral support for exhibition payment with the publication of the Exhibition Payment Guide in 2016.

Outcomes of this latest survey will, for the first time, establish a benchmark for actual payments made to, and received by artists, from exhibitions across the UK. The data collected will mean future editions of the Exhibition Payment Framework within the Exhibition Payment Guide reflect artists’ experiences, and the capacity of organisations to make fair payments informed by regional and national data and practice.

Survey closes on Friday 18 May 2018.

Most of the meteorites we have found on Earth are thought to be bits of asteroids that never grew to be planet sized. Now, Farhang Nabiei at the École …

Craft on the big screen

Discover a mixture of short documentaries, music videos and hand-crafted animations from around the globe during Real to Reel, the UK's first film festival dedicated to making.

Taking place on 8, 9 and 10 May at Picturehouse Central in London, the festival is co-produced by the Crafts Council and Crafts magazine, and this year is in partnership with Killik & Co., an independently owned investment house.

Crafts magazine talks to puppet makers Ian Mackinnon & Peter Saunders who will be holding a talk as part of the festival.
