The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Crafthaus will soon open an online shop featuring juried-in craft artwork and related items!

The shop will interface with facebook and pinterest to allow for a wide audience.

We are in the process of selecting our first round of artists to be featured in Spring 2016 and encourage applications from within the crafthaus membership and outside.

Currently considered:

Jewelry, wearables, small fiber, ceramic and glass items. We are looking for a wide range of diverse, expertly-made items. All work should be under 8 inches in height, lightweight, easily ship-able.

Additional work may become eligible in the future.

Deadline for entries:

(Spring/Summer Features): February 29

(Fall/Winter Features): August 31

Landscape has been a constant obsession in Pamela Rawnsley’s life and in her work. Exploration was key to her progress; through material manipulation, print and drawing she pushed boundaries.

Pamela’s work is internationally respected and is in many private and public collections including National Museum Wales, The Goldsmiths’ Company, V&A Museum. As the Arts Council of Wales noted, ‘A leading silversmith and artist, passing in her prime … robbed Wales of one of its finest makers of recent times.’ The new work, begun during her Creative Wales Ambassador Australian residency, is exceptional.

The Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council is the flagship organisation for the precious metal industry. It promotes, supports and enhances skills and excellence across the profession through a unique annual national competition for UK based designers and craftsmen.

Over 700 entries are judged by industry experts at the Goldsmiths’ Centre, which culminates in a prestigious awards ceremony and public exhibition at Goldsmiths’ Hall. This showcase celebrates the winners from 2015, their outstanding craftsmanship, creativity and originality, and brings together, for the first time, a selection of work by the Council’s important Ambassadors, Leo De Vroomen, Shaun Leane & Stephen Webster.

Romilly Saumarez Smith’s meticulous jewellery is shown for the first time

In 2014 Romilly Saumarez Smith exhibited a new collection of jewellery in the studio of Edmund de Waal. For many visitors the show was a revelation: the meticulously made rings, earrings and pendants, each a tiny sculpture of elements, some ancient, some new, some dark and matt, sharp and off-kilter – others gleaming and proudly baroque – offered jewellery that was resonant with history, full of poetry and feeling.

Her pieces incorporate small items of mediaeval or antique metal – belt buckles, nails, charms, buttons, thimbles, clasps – dug up by people with metal detectors, which she buys on eBay and then transforms into miniature landscapes, palimpsests of time and memory. Now, in Newfoundland at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich, Saumarez Smith’s exquisite jewellery will be shown for the first time in a public gallery in Britain.

Applications to exhibit at Goldsmiths’ Fair 2016 opened on 4 January and close at midnight 26 February 2016. Begin your application here.

The Goldsmiths’ Fair Selection Committee will meet in March and applicants will be advised of the outcome thereafter.

Over two weeks in autumn 2016, Goldsmiths’ Fair will showcase new collections from the best UK-based designer-makers working in gold and silver. Last year, 168 exhibitors (129 jewellers and 39 silversmiths) took part and more than 9,000 people visited the event.
