Did you know Art Jewelry Forum's website is an extensive resource of informative interviews, looking at the objects we love through the eyes of the artist? During the redesign, some artist interviews from our archive were damaged and we've been hard at work putting the 1s and 0s back together again. We are happy to announce 69 artist interviews have been restored and republished. So if you were concerned that the interview of the artist you love was missing, it's back and ready to be studied at your leisure. Enjoy!

The Rotasa Foundation will continue to double donations until the end of the year. If you haven't donated to Art Jewelry Forum, there's still time. Donate here.

And ... don't forget current supporters of AJF receive a 20% discount in AJF's bookstore. Give the gift of jewelry knowledge during the holidays.

Xo,

Jerwood Open Forest

Description

An exceptional opportunity for visual artists to propose ideas for a major new £30,000 commission to be realised anywhere within England’s Public Forest Estate, supported by Arts Council England.

There is no brief. This is a call for bold, broad-thinking proposals that explore the potential of forests as sites for art, both in and about the environment. Proposals can be for work in any discipline or medium, temporary or permanent, site-specific or for touring to more than one location. From initial ideas submitted, five artists or collaborations will be selected to each receive a £2,000 research and development fee to develop their proposals over a six-month period. Each selected artist will be fully supported by Jerwood Charitable Foundation and Forestry Commission England to expand on their concept, assess the viability of their idea and explore potential sites.

During this six-month research period the artists will take part in development activities, structured through a core programme of group workshops and advisory sessions which will be experienced as a peer group, and complemented by one-to-one sessions. A curated exhibition presenting the artists' work and exploring broader contemporary debates around critical practice and art in the public realm and the environment will open at Jerwood Space, London in November 2016 as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme. One artist will be selected during the exhibition to receive a £30,000 commissioning budget to realise their proposal.

How to Apply

Submission is by online application and artists must be resident in the UK and within fifteen years of graduating from their undergraduate degree or starting their career as an artist. Artists are asked to submit a proposal outlining their idea, a CV, images of current work and an entry fee of £10.

Application Deadline: 5pm on Monday 1st February 2016

Crafting the Future of Thurrock - Future Makers; an apprenticeship enrichment programme

Description

Seeking applications from maker educators to deliver a programme of workshops

Future Makers forms part of the wider project ‘Crafting the Future of Thurrock’, which was commissioned by Thurrock Council in line with their vision statement; to make Thurrock “a place of opportunity, enterprise and excellence, where individuals, communities and businesses flourish”.

Crafts Council’s Talent Development Team is piloting an apprenticeship-enrichment programme in collaboration with Thurrock Council and Willmott Dixon. The enrichment programme is designed to enable young people who are currently in construction-based apprenticeships or training to work with professional makers, in order to gain exceptional insight into craft skills, elevate knowledge, build confidence and raise self-esteem.

The year-long pilot programme will demonstrate the breadth of craft practice by offering a range of craft-based activities with a pool of experienced maker educators. Accessible in its nature, the programme will begin with a series of half-day taster events that introduce different materials and techniques, followed by a series of two- or three-day intensive workshops where participants produce a piece of work.

Selected makers will collaborate with the Creative Producer and project partners to deliver workshops in a number of venues across Thurrock, Essex. Workshops could range from ceramics, woodwork, blacksmithing, glass-casting, stone-carving, metal work, automata and more.

How to Apply

Applications for maker educators are now open. Please download the pdf document for more detailed project information, person specifications and information on how to apply.

The deadline for applications is Monday 25 January 2016.

Crafting the Future of Thurrock is a partnership between Crafts Council, Thurrock Council and Willmott Dixon.
