The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

ACJ welcomes to its membership makers, collectors, curators, educators, gallerists and all who have in interest in or passion for contemporary jewellery. ACJ organises exhibitions, conferences, events, talks and workshops for its members and the public. We publish our print magazine Findings twice a year, send a monthly e-bulletin to members, packed with news, information & opportunities, and we run social media accounts which reach over 10,000 people with news and information - Facebook, Instagram, Twitter & YouTube. We do all this on an annual budget of about £25,000, funded by membership subscriptions. Would you like to donate to help us further this work? Any amount is welcome! PayPal donations can be made here:…Continue

Tom Sutton survey on attitudes towards how education stimulates creative thinking and how this affects people both in their professional and daily lives. This seems increasingly poignant in current times when large numbers of the public are turning towards practicing craft activities during lockdown and beyond. https://www.makerproject-thinkingthroughpractice.org/your-voice-counts

The Market for Craft, commissioned by Crafts Council and partners, has now been launched and is a rich analysis of who is buying craft, why and where. Using survey findings from consumers in the UK and two US cities, as well as makers and intermediaries supporting craft businesses, the report shows how craft sales are worth £3bn to the UK economy and that there is a growing new generation of younger craft consumers. The report will help makers to develop their businesses, understanding in much greater depth who their consumers are and what drives their appreciation of craft. Read either the full report or summary here. https://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/articles/market-for-craft-report-l...

Spotlight on: The Fan Museum

With a delightful permanent collection of fans from as far back as the 12th century, you can peruse online exhibitions from London’s Fan Museum through Google Arts & Culture. Highlights include Street Fans, an exhibition made possible thanks to a successful campaign run through our crowdfunding platform, Art Happens, and Fans: the humble beginnings, looking back at the birth of the fan-making industry. https://www.artfund.org/whats-on/museums-and-galleries/fan-museum?u...

The Goldsmiths’ Company is delighted to announce that Richard Fox, Managing Director of Fox Silver, has taken office as Prime Warden.

With a background in silversmithing, design and business leadership, Richard has successfully created beautiful silverware for the likes of Formula One and Rolls Royce for almost four decades.

His primary focus will be championing the trade of silversmiths, jewellers and allied industries during his year in office.

Commenting on his appointment and the year ahead, Richard says: “This will doubtless be a challenging year for the Company and for our craft, trade and allied industries whose business have virtually come to a standstill since the crisis began in March. I am deeply passionate about our industry – which I believe is world-class – and am committed to doing what I can to support it during my time as Prime Warden.”

Read more about his appointment here. https://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/company/today/news/2020/05/21/richa...
