The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Arts Council England is investing nearly £30k in Craft Finder.

Our March 2013 newsletter
Dear Fellow craft business

I want you share our good news with you - Arts Council England is investing £30k in Craft Finder to help develop our audiences. We are delighted they recognise that we're meeting a need for contemporary craft lovers but also that there is a way to go before we are fully self-sustaining. We will be recruiting to a part time post shortly and the investment means that we will be able to attend events such as Art in Action this year. Here's a press release with more information.

Our latest makers ....
220 designer-makers have now joined us and we have over 600 places for you to find in the UK, from the Scillies to Shetland and from Haverfordwest to Southwold. Here are some of the latest to have joined us.

Dear Designer,

Handmade in Britain is pleased to introduce you to exciting opportunities for designer makers coming up for 2013/14

Handmade in Britain 13: The Contemporary Crafts & Design Fair

8th - 10th November 2013

Chelsea Old Town Hall, London

This year we are looking forward to our 7th Handmade in Britain show, showcasing the best of contemporary craft & design in the stunning setting of Chelsea Old Town Hall. We are welcoming applications from all disciplines and from established makers and new talent alike. For information and to apply, please see the application pack, available on our website. The deadline for applications is 12th April 2013.

New for this year’s Chelsea Show, we celebrate exceptional new talent in our New Graduate Showcase. Open to designer-makers who graduated in 2012 or 2013, the showcase will form a dedicated gallery space in the main hall of Handmade in Britain 13. For more information, download the application pack. The deadline for applications is 12th April.

Looking further into the future, CRAFT will open its doors for the first time in January 2014.

CRAFT is a new trade show for contemporary craft & design from Clarion Events in association with Handmade in Britain. The launch of CRAFT is in response to increasing demand from retailers searching for high quality products with provenance; items which are truly unique and original; objects with heart, soul and individuality. CRAFT is the place where professional buyers will discover just such products.

We are now accepting applications to exhibit at CRAFT. You can find further information on the event on our website, and also within the application pack. We welcome interest from designer makers working in the UK and Europe, and the deadline for applications is 28th June. Please note that applications must be accompanied by an exhibition space contract, available on our website.

With best wishes from the Handmade in Britain team.
