The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Thank you Poppy. Great to hear your views on the exhibition at the design museum. I've heard mixed reports. And am now buying the book off my wish list for sure. More reports and views welcome.

@Poppy: I agree with your thoughts on the optics. I thought it odd that a book published for readers who are so extremely visually oriented could have such a dull cover and seemingly *boring* looking interior design. But first impressions notwithstanding, I am currently ploughing through it and I stand corrected. The book really is a find. If anyone else is reading it, feel free to tell me what you like/dislike about it. I really love to hear what you think!

Thanks so much also, Poppy, for the additional note about the Unexpected Pleasures" exhibition and link to your blog!! That book is on my to-buy list. Now that is a cover...

Hi Brigitte I bought On Jewellery, it really is a helpful book and easily readable even though it looks a little academic on first look.

I really enjoyed my visit to The Design Museum's latest exhibition "Unexpected Pleasures".  The Design Museum is in a great location by Tower Bridge, London and this was the first contemporary jewellery exhibition put on by the museum.  I was really impressed by the range and international flavour of the show even if the display and lighting could have been better.  I've put a bit of a review on my blog: Review of Unexpected Pleasures The full review will hopefully appear in Findings Magazine in the spring edition.

I will do that Rebecca! So far, I only glanced through it but I'll be more specific asap.

BTW: I think you are doing a fantastic job updating us regularly about things going on in the UK.

If there is anyone else here in this group who also resides in the UK or Ireland, please feel free to update this group blog too, the more the merrier. Thanks!
