The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

This Month's Craft in Focus Featured Maker:
Brian Eburah - Jeweller

Brian Eburah on his stand
Brian specialises in anodizing titanium and niobium, incorporating them with precious metals and a selection of stones into jewellery and small artworks. His design inspirations are also available as canvas or photographic prints.
Titanium, niobium and tantalum have unique properties in producing iridescent colours when applying a DC voltage. Unlike anodized aluminium no pigments are involved, with the colours being created when light refracts off the metal surface after passing through the hard oxide layer produced through the anodizing process. The individual colours depend on the thickness of the oxide layer based on the voltage applied.
Brian was introduced to these techniques at Central School of Art in the 1970s and has developed the colouring processes over the years. New methods and ideas are often seen through trying to replicate details from nature or often learning from mistakes!

Kate Haywood
Until 7 October 2018
Since graduating just four years ago, Kate Haywood has emerged as one of the UK's most distinctive and imaginative new ceramicists, showing at leading venues in the UK and abroad. She makes intriguing, surreal sculptures in finely modelled porcelain with colourful textiles, glass and metallic elements. Frequently inspired by found objects from long ago and far away, Haywood's works are designed to engage our imagination and senses.

ONE OF AJF'S FOUNDERS HONORED BY THE AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL
Susan Cummins Named An Honorary Fellow For Her Advocacy Work

Thursday, February 1, 2018, San Francisco, California: Art Jewelry Forum (AJF) is pleased to share the news that Susan Cummins, one of the founders of this organization, has been named an Honorary Fellow by the American Crafts Council (ACC).

Since 1975, the ACC has recognized individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the craft field in America by awarding the distinction of Fellow of the Council, known collectively as the College of Fellows. Honorees must demonstrate leadership in the field, outstanding ability as an artist and/or educator, and 25 years or more of professional achievement as an American craftsperson. Awardees are nominated by the active College of Fellows and selected by a committee of their peers--just one of many reasons why this honor is so meaningful.

This honor is especially significant to Art Jewelry Forum because Susan Cummins's dedication and leadership throughout her 20-year relationship with AJF is an integral part of this recognition by the ACC. Her involvement with and dedication to art jewelry is an inspiration to us all. You can read more about her activities in a 2014 interview in American Craft Magazine, titled "Powerful Objects," or simply visit www.artjewelryforum.org to see the tangible results of her advocacy for art jewelry.

Liberty Open Call is back - and this year we’re focused on finding the best untapped interior design talent in the UK. We’re inviting designers, makers and craftspeople to upload a photo of their product to Instagram using #LibertyOpenCall for the chance to be stocked in our world-famous home department. Asking the public to help sway their vote, our buying team will have final say on the winner, to be revealed during London Craft Week in May.
