The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Get hands-on with craft and technology

On 27 and 28 October, makerspaces, fablabs, museums, galleries, and libraries nationwide will be throwing open their doors for Make:Shift:Do, our festival of digital making that combines traditional craft with technology and new materials - offering a tinker-tastic range of making workshops and activities.

Transform a plastic milk bottle into a heart shaped decoration; create a 3D printed wheelchair or heart monitor; explore digital embroidery and much more. Find a venue near you and get involved.

The Craft & Design Collective and Craft Northern Ireland have been working in partnership for six months and have now formed Craft NI, which aims to strengthen the input of those working in craft on a national and international level.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s Head of Visual Arts, Suzanne Lyle, described the merger as a “smart solution” for two organisations contributing valuable services to the development of craft in the country.

Public donations to arts projects increase and fundraising skills improve when crowdfunding campaigns are matched with other funds, new research shows.

This form of fundraising – combining public and private funding with smaller donations from the public raised through online platforms – was trialled amongst arts organisations in a nine-month pilot programme backed by Arts Council England (ACE), the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and online platform Crowdfunder.
