The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Made for the Table
The Harley Gallery, Free
4 November 2017 – 7 January 2017
The exhibition explores how contemporary silversmiths continue to make precious handmade objects for the table. A bespoke dining table is laid with newly commissioned silver and a

selection of modern glass, ceramics and textiles by leading UK artisans, brought together in a vibrant and colourful display. This modern table setting is introduced by extraordinary silver acquired by the Goldsmiths’ Company over the last 500 years, reflecting its long history of patronage. https://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/company/today/events/2017/made-tabl...

Rachel Allen

Good afternoon

I would like to invite members of the Association for Contemporary Jewellery to write some practical books for The Crowood Press on jewellery making.

The Crowood Press is an independent publisher which has been publishing titles on hobbies and interests for over thirty years. We have a successful jewellery list which includes books like Silversmithing by Brian Hill and Andrew Putland and Designing and Making Rings and Bangles by Miranda Falkner and Evangelos Pourgouris. A full list can be found on our website – www.crowood.com

We would now like to add some new jewellery titles. I hope that some of your members will be interested in this opportunity and would be pleased to give them more information.

Could I therefore ask you to either circulate this Call for Authors to all your members, or to add an entry to your Facebook page?

“Call for Authors

The Crowood Press is expanding their jewellery list which includes titles such as Silversmithing and Soldering for Jewellers. The books are written by leading jewellers, and are full of practical instruction and beautiful photographs. If you are interested in writing a book for them, please contact their commissioning editor Rachel Allen at rachel@crowood.com for more details.”

I can provide images of some book covers if you wanted to attach them to your email.

With many thanks for your help

Kind regards
Rachel

New jewellery for a new month: An exciting collection of colourful cuffs, earrings and necklaces by Sue Gregor has arrived. Her silver and acrylic jewellery involves her own process of 'Fossilised Plactic', which uses real leaves and flowers and, with the change in seasons, she has an endless supply of inspiration!

Amador Bertomeu & Leo Caballero, founders and directors of Klimt02, open a physical space in Barcelona in 2007 under the name of Klimt02 Gallery, representing prominent and renowned international jewelers worlwide. Since December 2016 the gallery started working under the name Hannah Gallery by Klimt02.

We understand the work of the artists such as the synthesis resulting from the combination of several concepts: language, memory, research, character, materials and technics. The gallery works primarily to show the creative and symbolic values of the pieces.

Hannah Gallery will organize 4 to 5 exhibitions a year. Regularly collaborates with other galleries and advises diverse international organizations.

Direction and management: Amador Bertomeu and Leo Caballero

I.M.A.G.I.N.E. Peace Now exhibition Update & RICAGV Fundraiser
http://mailchi.mp/borisbally/imagine-update-ricagv-fundraiser?e=b00...

Dear Friends,

The recent events in Las Vegas are a frightening example of the escalation of gun violence we continue to suffer here in the US.  It is with a heavy heart that we continue our advocacy work for responsible gun laws that will protect our families from these disasters. Real change can happen now but we must allstep up and take action: call and e-mail your legislators and representatives and demand action; donate generously to advocacy groups that will keep the pressure on our elected officials to demand change.  In Rhode Island they are listed here.

This September, after many years of hard work, we were able to celebrate the passage of the  Protect Rhode Island Families Act. The legislation, sponsored by Representative Teresa Tanzi and Senator Harold Metts, and co-sponsored by many other members of the General Assembly, will protect victims of domestic violence, and all Rhode Islanders, by disarming dangerous convicted domestic abusers as well as those subject to restraining orders. This is a huge victory for the gun violence prevention movement in Rhode Island, and it would not have been possible without your support. Thank you!

This is what has been happening with the I.M.A.G.I.N.E. Peace Now exhibition:

-This past July, the Association for Contemporary Annual Conference  was held at Sheffield Hallam University, UK.  Artist Dauvit Alexander invited me to present on I.M.A.G.I.N.E. Peace Now. The conference was inspiring and the talk was well-received. Mr. Dauvit and colleague Professor Norman Cherry are considering launching a similar exhibition in the UK.

- September 21-24, Haystack School of Crafts. Paul Sacaridiz, Director of Haystack School of Crafts invited me to be a presenter at the Haystack Art School Collaborative conference where colleagues PJ Gubatina Policarpio, Wendy Jacob, Nancy Blum and CERF+ (Syl
