Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Creative Practitioner
Description

We are seeking creative practitioners that have great experience with young people going through behavioural challenges - 6-11 year olds, class sizes of 7/ 8 young people. We need practitioners for Wed afternoons for the next 6 weeks. Paid opportunities. The arts experiences we seek include art, music, crafts and other 'outside the box' exciting experiences. We are looking to engage practitioners now to start asap. The students are all boys with challenging backgrounds. Practitioners will need to have a calm temperament, great with rapport building, consistent in attendance and aspirational in their expectations - meaning even if the young people (and maybe the schools staff) doubt their abilities, we stay positive, encourage them and get them to achieve their personal bests. Please feel free to feedback with any questions. If interested please inform us of how you would shape your sessions, and which resources you may need and your hourly rates etc.

How to Apply

Please feel free to feedback with any questions. If interested please inform us of how you would shape your sessions, and which resources you may need and your hourly rates etc. Send an email to admin2@aspire4u.co.uk with subject line 'Creative Practitioner'

Trish Woods works predominately in pewter and silver exploring aspects of form, colour and contrasting surfaces. Having studied at Loughborough University, she has also taught in the USA and for many years was a lecturer and course leader in 3D Design and Metals at South Devon College. Her PhD research centered on investigation into new processes for the artificial colouring of Tin and Pewter. The results of the research, developed through a now patented process, aim to utilise those colours inherent but hidden in the material. She is now based at Unit 6, Seachange Craft Studios, Cockington, Torquay, Devon where you can view her work. http://www.acj.org.uk/index.php/user-profile2/trishwoods

Lindsey Mann

‘Drawing inspiration from themes of collecting memories I create playful jewellery which might explore a fleeting moment, a chance encounter or a material souvenir charged with meaning. Referencing shape, form, colour and pattern to realise each piece of jewellery I hope to create something which has both familiar and yet foreign associations, perhaps triggering a vague memory for the viewer and hopefully raising a smile!’

Christina Hurst
Jewellery Showcase
Christina creates jewellery inspired by natural textures and forms, the rugged bark and dripping seeds from trees, clusters of berries, flowering vines and blooming buds. Studying natural forms such as these through drawing and photography, Christina takes shapes and textures she finds interesting and simplifies or abstracts them to translate them into metal. Combined with materials such as pearls and precious stones she creates beautiful tactile jewellery, which is a pleasure to wear.

In NOW RADICAL we emphasize an awareness of your place as artist/jewelry-maker in the world. NOW RADICAL takes the position between yourself and the world. Between the real and the fake. In NOW RADICAL we encourage your own image and habits and firmly confront you with them through art and art-jewellery making. NOW RADICAL is about strength, we will positively convert this energy into art and art jewellery. In NOW RADICAL we will only use natural materials. Materials which are supplied raw from the earth. By treating these materials with respect there arises honor and another sort of form language - a language close to man, and the wearer of jewellery.

In this workshop NOW RADICAL we learn how to look, work and talk. We have to stand for what we are, and what we are making. NOW RADICAL is a workshop where we will discover and explore the power of the maker. You will fine tune and connect with our own radicality, guiding yourself on the way to delve deeper into your own visual language and see yourself better.

Together we will search for your own “RADICALITY”. This means that you will get in contact with yourself. We will guide you through your primary experience, teach you to formulate your own positions, and support you in translating this into making fine art and art jewellery. NOW RADICAL is about taking another approach at our experience of making, a statement about how you can relate to your own inner force. Artists, students and teachers are stimulated to produce work around this idea. By doing so, it is important that there is not only rational reflection, but also allowing the subconscious to enter into the work process. Each participant, fine-artist or art-jeweler will formulate the frame of her/his reference.

The NOW RADICAL course is built on a step-by-step process of education in which an end product is not the most important goal. The emphasis lies on personal guidance and development. The participants are given the tools with which to continue this process on their own. By means of direct action people learn to take steps.
