The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Arts Council England (ACE) has increased the number of National Portfolio Organisations (NPOs) it funds by 183, and increased funding across its portfolio by £42.5m a year, in what it has billed as the “largest ever investment” in its national portfolio.

The NPO investment for 2018-22 also sees a combined cut to the four highest-funded NPOs of around £2.5m a year, and the readmission of the troubled English National Opera (ENO) into the portfolio on standstill funding.

Material of the Year
Gallery Feature

Few things unlock the creativity of a designer more than a material. The in-depth exploration of how a material can be used or how a material is created is all part of the process - the joy of design.

For 2017 we are putting a material in the spotlight.

We thought long and hard, and finally, our ignorance yielded our decision. Over the last twelve months, we have most often been surprised to find that Jesmonite has been the medium for some of the most vivid colour displays and fine detail in the products we have been most intrigued by.

Jesmonite is the ultimate chameleon material of the building industry – it can be used to replicate the appearance and texture of any surface finish in any number of colours.

The combination of natural raw materials with a special blend of water-based pure acrylic polymers create a unique family of materials that have a number of product benefits that make Jesmonite superior to other building materials.

Blog by Amarette Gregor: Conference Chat with Aurelie Guillaume

Hello again, fellow intrepid makers! Today I’m sharing some tidbits and insights from a lovely conversation I had with Aurélie Guillaume, a fabulous art jeweler and enamelist from Montréal, Canada. Currently she is the artist in residence at Lillstreet Gallery, and will be their featured jewelry artist for the month of July.

I spoke with her about her work, her current career path, and her thoughts on making a living in the “art jewelry world.” I’ve snagged some pictures for this post from her website, and her fab Instagram feed. Seriously, go check them out for yourself. (Aurélie's website has photos of the BACKS of her work, which are as stunning as the fronts! I stole a couple to share here, but trust me -- you want to see the rest.) Her work is incredible and her Instagram is full of process shots. Aurelie is an incredible craftsperson and artist, and should definitely be on your radar.
