The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

An Interview with metalsmith + jeweler Amarette Gregor
When it comes to planning her career, Portland, Oregon metalsmith and jeweler Amarette Gregor is laser-focused. The artist recently participated in a CERF+ panel on building and sustaining careers at Clackamas County Arts Alliance’s Art Extravaganza in Oregon City.

A self-proclaimed "preparedness nerd", Amarette shares her strategies for a purposeful and sustainable career.

Creative Careers Demand Reinvention
Our work is not just work. We are what we do. Until our bread and butter skill is rendered obsolete by a new technology. Or our market dries up. Or…or…or. There are many reasons why we must reinvent ourselves throughout our careers. Mike Sager recounts his past 33 years searching new markets, sticking his foot in doors, and suffering rejection, all to come up with new ways to do the work he loves.

Spaces Available For Some Disciplines
Winchester - Exhibit at The Guildhall (17-19 November 2017)

We are circulating information again about our Winchester craft fair in November as, whilst speaking to exhibitors at our recent event at RHS Garden Wisley, it was clear that many had not noticed that we are introducing a mixed craft fair at Winchester this year which will be staged alongside our regular Desire Jewellery and Silversmithing Fair.  This will be our ninth year at Winchester so we have a well-established visitor attendance already.  The two fairs will be marketed as having individual identities but with a single admission fee covering both events.

The event is held within the well-known period building which is situated at the end of the High Street making the venue very accessible from the town centre car parks.  Winchester is one of the most affluent areas in the south, making this the ideal location in which to stage this event.

Set up will be on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning with the event opening to the public from 12.30 - 7.30 pm on Friday and then from 10 am - 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

An unlimited number of free admission tickets will be available for exhibitors to distribute to their customers and Craft In Focus has booked a large door to door campaign with Royal Mail distributing free tickets to promote this addition to our normal event.  This is in addition to the usual high level of advertising we always do for our events.

The American Craft Council announced in a press release that executive director Chris Amundsen has tendered his resignation. Amundsen’s last day will be August 4, 2017.

Leilani Lattin Duke, ACC Life Trustee and former board chair, says, “I was privileged to chair the board when Chris was hired. While he came from “outside” the craft field, his accomplishments in previous jobs, his skillset, and his personality earned him the board's confidence. Chris joined the Council immediately following the decision to relocate the Council from New York City to Minneapolis. He led the Council through a tumultuous time, hiring an outstanding staff and working closely with the board to address the relocation challenges. His steady hand and warm personality over the past seven years ensured the Council's successful transition to a more relevant, stable, and energetic organization serving craft artists and the field. He leaves a legacy of strong leadership and Council programs for his successor.”

The Pocket Guide to New Zealand Jewellery is based on a pamphlet that introduced American GIs stationed in New Zealand during World War II to the culture and history of the island. This small but powerful exhibition catalog introduces new audiences to the unique style and tradition of New Zealand jewelry.

Illustrated with work from Alan Preston, Octavia Cook, Renee Bevan, Jane Dodd, Fran Allison, Warwick Freeman, Lisa Walker, and many more, and peppered with the dry wit and commentary of Damian Skinner, The Pocket Guide to New Zealand Jewellery also boasts an extended reading list to encourage further understanding of New Zealand's unique contribution to the art jewelry field.https://artjewelryforum.org/pocket-guide-to-new-zealand-jewelry
