The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

De Vroomen: Harmony in Colour and Form
Goldsmiths' Hall, 12 April - 26 July
Mon – Wed, 10am - 4pm
A celebration of artistic collaboration between renowned husband and wife team, Dutch goldsmith Leo de Vroomen and British jewellery designer and artist Ginnie de Vroomen.  
The showcase brings together over 100 pieces of De Vroomen jewels, sketches reflecting the creative process, as well as Ginnie’s vivid paintings.

Sales Assistant: We are looking for enthusiastic creative individuals to join our team as a sales assistants.

Requirements:

    Must have at least a C in GCSE Maths (or equivalent) please do not apply if you do not have the relevant qualifications.
    Must have previous retail or customer service experience.
    Must be enthusiastic, friendly, hard working and willing to learn.

Job Role: Sales Assistant - working within our busy city centre shop, wholesale and mail order departments to serve and advise customers. To carry out general day to day tasks including cleaning, tiding, sorting and stocking products, inventory control, cash handling as well as window displays, social media and jewellery making.

There is the opportunity to get involved with the running, developing and teaching of workshops too.

Person Specification: We need someone who is confident communicating with customers and colleagues. A great level of patience and eagerness to learn is required in this role. A keen interest in jewellery making and crafts is useful but not essential as training is given. We need someone who is happy to be on their feet for long periods of time and can handle the many flights of stairs in our lovely Victorian building.

Salary & hours: We have full time and part time positions to fill. Applicants must be able to work Saturdays & weekdays, however hours and spesific days are negotiable. Salary is variable depending on experience and number of hours worked, based on £14,608 per annum.

The primary function of the Apprentice Silversmith is to rediscover, learn and preserve the varied trade skills of the 18th century silversmith, including becoming relatively proficient in the related skills of chasing, engraving, foundry work, and the casting and finishing of pewter, and to interpret those skills to the public both orally and written. The apprentice must become proficient in these skills so that he/she can eventually help teach future apprentices, insuring the trade is perpetuated.
 
Learns and develops proficiency in the skills of the 18th century silversmith’s trade, including becoming relatively proficient in the related skills of chasing, engraving, foundry work, and the casting and finishing of pewter, Increases knowledge in each skill area and uses that information to expand interpretation to the guests, gained through completing work assignments outlined in the Silversmiths Trade Skills Curriculum.
Works on trade projects to refine and practice skills in both silverwork and foundry work as assigned by the Master Silversmith.
Provides in-depth interpretations on the silversmithing/foundry trades, its history, and its products and services in the community, region, and the world; the technology, processes, skills organization and the working environment of the trades: the lives and times of those who pursued the trades; the evolution of the trades; relationships between trades, etc., with the emp.....

Dutch jewelry artist Ruudt Peters is currently preparing a 44-year retrospective exhibition of his work entitled BRON. Bron means ‘source’, a word Peters finds fascinating as he continues to investigate the inspirations and serendipity through which we can better understand ourselves.

Well done Julie Massie!! Rising Stars Winner New Ashgate Gallery

Exhibitions:
For the Rising Stars competition, we are delighted to present 22 exceptional craft graduates, selected from more than 60 applicants. The makers combine innovative practice with strong production skills. The exhibition showcases their ingenuity with materials and their cutting edge design.
 
We welcome back Emma-Jane Rule who won the 2016 Rising Stars competition. It is great to see the progress that Emma-Jane has made over the last 12 months and the exciting new designs she brings to this ‘one year on’ exhibition.
 
In our Balcony Gallery, you’ll find Jan Gaska and Fiona Pearce who have spent the winter capturing Farnham and its surrounding areas. Their contrasting styles show off many of the town’s landmarks, including the Frensham Pond and the Waverley Abbey.
