The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

A DESIGN DISCOVERY: GREAT BRITISH SILVER 1940-2016

Featuring The Pearson Silver Collection

This year’s Elements Festival 2016 exhibition in Edinburgh shows the development of British silver design from the post war austerity of the 1940s and 1950s to the design revolution that blossomed in the 1960s and the continuity of this creativity that has led to the UK being a centre of excellence for silversmithing. The UK has attracted people from all over the world, not just to study here, but to stay as designer-makers. This cauldron of creativity is one of the nation’s best-kept secrets. http://www.elementsfestival.co.uk/elements-edinburgh?utm_source=Mas...

Applications are now open for submissions to  Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival 2017.

Produced by the Crafts Council and Crafts magazine this is the first UK festival dedicated to craft and moving image. The 2017 Festival will return to Picturehouse Central for a three evening takeover on 2, 3 and 4 May coinciding with London Craft Week.

We are inviting submissions for films that will challenge assumptions about craft, surpass expectations about filmmaking, and most importantly share knowledge and delight.

We are interested in all genres: documentaries, story-led films and animation that capture skill in action, unveil hidden processes and invite us to look again at materials and those who shape them.

In 2016, 36 films were selected from over 300 submissions. Highlights included award-winning director Liam Saint-Pierre’s documentary following artist and inventor Dominic Wilcox on his quest to transform the mundane into something extraordinary, and Lionel T Dean’s tribute to 1950s Japanese science fiction T-Rex versus The Gorilla: Quest for the Stone. The festival also featured the UK premiere of Gill & Gill, which looks at humanity’s relationship with stone through the stories of two masters: rock-climber John Gill and lettercutter Eric Gill.

We look forward to receiving the next wave of trailblazing submissions from UK and international film makers. http://www.craftscouncil.org.uk/articles/real-to-reel-applications-...
