The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

London Design Festival: Post-Resource Economy

Location:

Exhibition Room

Date:

22-Sep-16

Time:

6pm – 8.30pm, £15 (incl glass of wine)

The design world is already starting to adapt to a future of depleting resources, using advances in biotechnology and genetic engineering to create new materials. This shift, which we call ‘Whole-system Thinking’, demands radical rethinking of the material culture and existing aesthetic codes of luxury.

The Future Laboratory are exploring the scenario of a post-resource world, where the traditional materials that we have come to know are extinct, and replaced with hybridized, engineered resources to provide long-term environmental solutions.

An average 3.5% booking plus handling fee applies on all bookings and credit card transactions. Please note that we cannot provide refunds or exchanges. You can also book via phone or at the reception desk at the Goldsmiths' Centre (EC1M 5AD). Please call 020 7566 7650 or email boxoffice@goldsmiths-centre.org to book or for more information.

Part of the London Design Festival (17 – 25 September), held to celebrate and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community.

The Future Laboratory helps clients to make a better future for their businesses, giving them the confidence to take decisions today that will create economic, environmental and social growth tomorrow. From their offices in London, Melbourne and New York, its dedicated team constantly research, analyse and document the new and the next, and set out the implications for organisations across 14 industry sectors globally.

Make Your Mark Awards Launched

This year’s Make Your Mark takes place in November and promises to be bigger than ever! The leading event for students on a precious metal related course in the UK will take place at Goldsmiths’ Hall on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd November 2016.

As part of this year’s event, we are very excited to launch the Make Your Mark Awards. Prizes will be awarded to the most artistically convincing piece which incorporates a hallmark as part of the design.

The aims of the Awards are to challenge today's students working in precious metal both technically and artistically, to educate today's students on UK hallmarking and the legal requirements when selling their work, and to motivate jewellers, silversmiths and other design disciplines to explore new ground, and stretch their imagination of the use of the hallmark.

Library and Archive News
The Goldsmiths’ Company is delighted to announce a new addition to its Library holdings: a 17th century goldsmith’s ledger previously held in a private collection. It records the accounts of a (as yet unknown) retailing goldsmith who had a range of high-profile clients, including Baptist May, privy purse to King Charles II.
This exceptionally rare document will undergo conservation work before being made available to scholars, and promises to provide rare insights into the 17th century goldsmithing trade. We look forward to unlocking its secrets! View highlights from the library on the Company https://www.thegoldsmiths.co.uk/craft/library-research/library-high...
