The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/2606242/Artists-Livelihoods-2016-a-n Artists in England are invited to complete the Artists' Livelihoods survey. Your contribution to the survey will form an important part of a comprehensive study into how visual artists in England live and work.
The project aims to listen to and document the realities of practising as a visual artist, as well as providing an opportunity to inform future initiatives. The findings will help to focus support where it is most needed to ensure a resilient and diverse visual arts sector.
a-n is working with independent research company TBR and James Doeser to deliver the Artists’ Livelihoods project, commissioned by Arts Council England. A broad range of partners are contributing to and invested in the initiative.
Take part in the Artists’ Livelihoods survey – it should take around 20 minutes to complete
Deadline: Friday 25 March 2016

We will be launching a very exciting Cutlery Competition in collaboration with The Worshipful Guild of Cutlers to design and make a new eating tool/utensil. To celebrate its launch we are taking over a section of the Materials Library and filling it with the most diverse range of cutlery we can find.
Have you got an unusual eating tool you would like to donate, bring it along on the day.

Video: Kundan Setting
Kundan setting is the technique most closely associated with the jewelled arts of the Mughal emperors. By using pure, soft, 24-carat gold (kundan), the goldsmith can set gemstones directly into fragile enamelled surfaces or into engraved gem materials, such as nephrite jade and rock crystal. This film, shot in workshops in Mumbai and Jaipur, shows a jewellery craftsman kundan setting diamonds in an enamelled gold earring.
