The Association for Contemporary Jewellery

is devoted to the promotion, representation, understanding and development of contemporary jewellery in the United Kingdom and abroad.

Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Contemporary metalsmithing is a dynamic field, marked by ever-expanding possibilities for the creation and presentation of work. “Shifting Sites,” SNAG’s 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith, will showcase works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and metal objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that address fluid boundaries in the production, subject matter, and siting of current metalwork and that creatively engage with their environment.

Eligibility:
• Open to all SNAG members 18 years of age or older, including jewelers, designers, metalsmiths, and students (please see instructions below to become a member).
• Applicants need not reside in the United States.
• All work must be original and produced within the last three years (2012 or later).
• Objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are NOT ELIGIBLE.
• Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to apply with images that have not been widely circulated in Metalsmith or other publications.

Requirements:
Apply through CaFÉ™
• Applications must be received by midnight (11:59:59 pm) Mountain Time, January 31, 2016.
• Application fee of $35 is non-refundable.
• Payments are made via CaFÉ™ website with Visa or MasterCard. Checks are not an acceptable form of payment.
All applicants MUST be a member of SNAG in order to be eligible to apply for this opportunity. If you are not a current member at the time of application, please see the links below to become a member or renew your membership.
• For each application, please submit both a detail and a general shot of your original work. Artists may submit up to 3 applications to show 3 separate pieces. Instructions on how to format images can be found on the CaFE™ website under Image Preparation. Entries submitted by any method other than through www.callforentry.org will not be accepted.
• All works must be accompanied by title, material, dimensions, and year of completion.
• Artists must submit an artist statement (1000 character limit).
• Artists must submit a one-page resume.
• All decisions of the jurors are final.
• All work must be original. By completing this application artist agrees that he/she is responsible for the creation of submitted works.
• By submitting images for possible publication in Metalsmith’s Exhibition in Print 2016, the artist agrees to the following:
- That Metalsmith magazine and SNAG have the right to retain and duplicate these images for the purpose of marketing and publishing the Exhibition in Print 2016, and for display on the SNAG website and e-newsletters.
- That the artist requires no compensation or further contact from Metalsmith magazine or SNAG.
- That the artist agrees to all terms and conditions set forth in this prospectus.

2016 Jurors:
• Submission deadline: January 31, 2016

Iron(y) - Jewellery by Sophie Hanagarth
Bracelets shaped like both a mouth and a trap, rings with sensual lips looking to make contact, recognisable male attributes on a chain, faeces-shaped medallions, rings with bullets and entangled tongues. Hanagarth is a Swiss jewellery designer whose work plays with conventions, the rigidity of thought, and the difficulty of being open to something that deviates from the norm. Under the heading jewel, Hanagarth makes hidden parts of the body, often regarded as embarrassing or awkward, visible on the outside. By doing so, she plays with values on the basis of which we decide what is worth displaying and what should remain in shadow, silent, discrete and private.
