Guildford Borough Council announces an exciting new commission and seeks expression of interests from experienced and suitably qualified artists to achieve a new public artwork.

Stage 1: Expression of Interest
Expressions of Interest are now invited from artists or groups of artists to work in partnership with Guildford Borough Council to develop an exciting site-specific piece of public art, which will bring character and uniqueness to an important route into and out of the town centre.

The designs and proposal should reflect the aim of the Council’s Public Art Strategy:
“We aim to encourage creative and innovative work in the future while conserving, celebrating and promoting Guildford’s rich cultural heritage.”

The value of the commission is £67,000 (inclusive of VAT).
This must allow for all necessary design, community engagement, build, treatment, installation, and maintenance costs.
There is no payment to artists submitting the initial Expression of Interest (Stage 1).
Up to 5 artists will be selected to proceed to Stage 2 and to develop a full proposal with sketches and a maquette.
A small fee will be available for each artist invited to submit a Stage 2 proposal.

The deadline for receipt of Stage 1 Expression of Interest is 13th February 2015 at 5pm.
The selection panel will consider submissions received by this deadline and select up to five artists to go forward to Stage 2 of this process.
Shortlisted applicants for Stage 2 will be notified by Friday 27th February.

For seven years we at the Goldsmith’s Company Assay Office have operated from the high security premises at London Heathrow airport, in addition to Goldsmiths’ Hall and our sub-office in Hatton Garden.

At Heathrow, our customers have benefitted from a high speed, fully insured door to door through packet service for hallmarking, taking days off your turnaround times and increasing your efficiency.
You enjoy the combination of the security and trust of one of the world’s foremost secure carriers, Brink’s Global Services, alongside the skills and years of experience of our expert and highly trained hallmarking team.

We are able to maintain the level of service at our two sub-offices due to their proximity to Goldsmiths’ Hall, and our ability to move staff between sites at short notice.

You will have read in the trade press that there has been quite a bit of activity with the other assay offices including the opening of a new sub-office.
We very much value your custom at the Goldsmith’s Company Assay Office and it is important to remember than you can only obtain the London hallmark from us.

We’re sure, as there is more than one assay office in the country, that from time to time you are approached by the other offices offering various deals and special promotions. We would be grateful for the opportunity to bid against any deals from other offices that you may receive and would welcome the chance to do so.

If you do receive any written offers, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Steve Collins, Head of Customer Services.  He will be pleased to help you to continue to have London’s leopard head hallmark applied to your products.

We are the UK's oldest hallmarking authority, and London is where hallmarking began.  It has been used by most of the finest jewellers and silversmiths of the past 700 years.  You too can carry forward this tradition, strengthen the reputation of the London hallmark, and be part of the UK’s unique silversmithing heritage.  We very much hope you will continue to do so.

A fresh January morning is one of the most beautiful times to arrive at West Dean. This morning as the frost glistened across the gardens and the subtle light of a wintery sun picked out the tiny snowdrops emerging from the soil, I watched almost every new visitor quickly take a picture on their smartphone to record the moment – and who can blame them! I hope those images will be used to inspire their work.

We have been very busy in the past few weeks, improving our database and booking system and preparing the summer brochure. We hope the brochure will be sent out in the next week or two, but in the meantime there is still availability on some of the courses before April. See the availability list. http://www.westdean.org.uk/CollegeChannel/ShortCourses/Courses/Book...

We look forward to welcoming you here soon.
Best wishes,
