Studios to Let

Are you highly motivated and developing high quality contemporary crafts?

Would your practice benefit from studio space and are you looking for somewhere to develop your business along side other makers?  

Opened in 2007, Making Space comprises 7 start-up studios for designer-crafts and visual artists and 2 fully equipped teaching spaces for jewellery and ceramics.  

Making Space is a charity with an emphasis on good quality and original contemporary visual arts.   Current tenants' art forms include: jewellery, glass, ceramics, painting, digital media, photography, textiles and illustration.

Applications are welcome from makers who are ready to take their work to the next stage of business development.  This includes makers who have completed their formal training to those currently working at home who feel their practice would benefit from being produced in a studio setting. A selection of good quality images of recent work and a 2 year business plan should be provided.

Studios are available for up to two years initially, with an option to renew the lease for a further 2 years or more. Studios are approximately 16sqm and depending on the art form, can accommodate up to 3 people sharing (at £125 per month) or one person (£200 per month).

 

Each studio has connections for gas, electricity, IT points, heating and sinks.   All studios have 24/7 access, are on the ground floor. Parking and a loading bay.

The newly organised Vilém Flusser Residency Programme supports projects and activities which are simultaneously conceptual and practice-based. The programme is geared towards the initiation of new research or to the further development of existing projects. This is not a production grant and while a public presentation/event will be expected, there is no pressure to present finished works. Where applicable, the support of publications, exhibitions, interventions and other results of the residency may be negotiated on a project to project basis. Special priority will be given to young and/or emerging artist-researchers.

 

 

RESIDENCY

The program starts from April 2012 on as a 2 month work-and research-residency in Berlin. The applicant selected by the jury will have the oppportunity to further develop the submitted project during the time of the residency. The program includes:

• travel costs to Berlin

• accomodation costs in Berlin

• stipend of 1000 EUR per month

• studio / workspace in the Flusser Archive at the University of Arts (UDK) in Berlin.

 

Further details of the project presentation at the transmediale festival and Flusser Archive will be negotiated directly with the applicant.

Ex Lab is inviting expressions of interest from visual arts, craft and media artists for 5 specific commissions plus a number of 'open brief' opportunities as part of the Ex Lab programme. The commissions offer a supported research period, fee, production and installation costs to create site responsive work for temporary installation at outdoor and indoor locations on the coast and in galleries and non-arts venues across Dorset.

Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust - Announcement of Spring 2012 Intake 
Covering a wide range of modern and traditional crafts, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarships are worth between £1,000 and £15,000. The scholarships can be used to fund further study, training and practical experience for the improvement of craft and trade skills.

Eligible applicants are craftsmen and craftswomen of all ages who live and work permanently in the UK.  Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they already have a high level of skill and are firmly committed to their craft or trade.

The deadline for applications for the spring 2012 Scholarships is 20 January 2012.
