Every week we are going to get challenges that will help us to think about ourselves in relation to our professional practice and our cultural identities.

This week, our first challenge is to answer the question:

Can you BE American* and FEEL Canadian, or visa versa? Please answer with the following language and fill in the blanks with any culture, country or description you feel fits you:

I am ___________ because ...

I feel ___________ because ...

I'll go first:

'I am Canadian because I was born in Canada.'

'I feel American* because I love consumer culture.'

'I feel Canadian when I pretend not to.'

So, what cultural identity do you have, and does it coinside with your country of residence? Let see how our thoughts compare.

* = American technically describes north American, but I am using it here to describe USA. If anyone knows the US equivalent to 'Canadian' please let me know.

Enjoy! And stay tuned for next weeks challenge!
