Zilberschmuck is having it's first exhibition "Saved from Oblivion" in downtown Toronto at 910 Kingston Rd. September 10 to Oct 2, 2010. This exhibition showcases Calgary artist Sonja Neven who reappropriates vintage jewellery by reclaiming both it's form and sentiment.

Artist's voice: 'Drawn as I am to all things old, this body of work was inspired by a recent museum tour of London and Paris. I was struck by the lack of jewellery in the collections, which is largely due to the tradition of recycling heirlooms.

Gems removed, sometimes re-cut, precious metal thrown into the melting pot to be made into something more contemporary. By incorporating discarded old treasures I am practicing the three Rs alongside the belief that in order for society to move forward we must pay homage to and preserve what has been learned and cherished before us. Its up to us to keep the magic alive."  - Sonja Neven

Hope to see you there!
