Collaborative Process: 

Our goal was to create a piece that combines both Andrew’s interest in Damascus and Sun’s work in wire framework. We decided to use materials that we each have an affinity for; forge welded steel and sterling silver. We chose a spoon, which is one of the most basic flatware utensils. Since we selected a basic item, we intended to highlight contrast and absurdity: using steel for the spoon instead of silver, and adding a wire-form handle to the spoon. We tried to create an aesthetic contrast between the classic decorative spoon design and architectural geometric wire frame handle.
