PARTICIPATORY SPORT FOR CRAFT ARTISTS
Online Exhibition project on crafthaus. Exhibitions are member-curated and change monthly.
Calls for Artists below!
Location: online
Members: 323
Latest Activity: May 17
All shows are member-curated with images chosen from members' artwork and work by artists outside of crafthaus!
Crafthaus is a democratic forum: EVERY crafthauser regardless of location, academic or media background is invited to submit short proposals and ideas at any time. We like "unusual" exhibition ideas. A lot! Work shown can be from fellow crafthaus artists but we also welcome exhibits that broaden the scope and include artists outside of the community.
Members will curate their online shows and are solely responsible for their exhibitions from beginning to end. Of course, technical assistance is always available, but crafthaus does not interfere in curatorial decisions.
A typical exhibition contains about 20+ images. If a show has an "open call" (see listings below) all members are invited and encouraged to contact the curators and submit images via email for the exhibitions posted.
NOTE: There will be absolutely no fee collected from submitting members, and no renumeration will be paid to the curators either ! This is an effort to give all members a chance to do something just for the fun of it, be a curator and select work, or have work shown without regard to the usual hassles and cost of shipping, insurance, storage considerations, and so on.
Exhibitions will stay on crafthaus even after the official exhibition time has passed. Curators and artists are encouraged to add their participation into their bios, with a direct link to the respective page. Because crafthaus grows and work gets added to the site daily, some curators choose to continually evolve their exhibitions even after the official time has passed, therefore taking another look at past exhibitions might reveal new pieces.

Comment by marcus marguillier on June 30, 2012 at 6:44am Hi All,
What happened to the "Black & White" exhibition?
I remember sending pics a long time ago...
Comment by alice simpson on December 31, 2011 at 8:29pm The good news was Portrait of the Artist as Marie Antoinette won Award of Distinction and $250. That will just about cover the packing and shipping to and from.
Don't get me wrong. I am very pleased and grateful to have won, but as the costs rise, entering becomes a consideration.
You are so right Alice! That reminds me to add to my yearly expenses entry fees. Let's hope your entry is accepted and that you jewelry sells

Comment by alice simpson on October 25, 2011 at 4:06pm Dear Brigitte,
I appreciate that you have created the criteria for online exhibitions.
Recently, I entered my work in an exhibition; the entry fee was $35.
The two delicate sculptures which were accepted, had to be specially wrapped, double boxed, then shipped via UPS, which cost $100. They will undoubtedly be sent back to me. Hopefully, the gallery will re wrap them in the original supplied bubble wrap and boxes. Even then, it will be another $45.
In order to pay a 50% commission to the gallery, should the work actually sell, I doubled the price.
As these expenses rise, it gets to be a more and more difficult decision to enter exhibitions.
Thanks for all you do,
Alice Simpson

For the next 13 months we'll discuss the trials, triumphs, and tribulations of exhibiting in art shows as emerging artists and established artists. Exhibition coverage will be balanced with tips on how to strategically build a legacy over a length of time, in a way that makes sense to your individual goals as an artist and maker.
Join us each month! There will be surprises around every corner, with photos, videos, SNAG conference coverage, and occasional interviews by rising artists!
