I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and give a short account of the wonderful things that the Yuma Symposium has already offered to me in my short career.  Currently, I am the head of the Art Metal/Jewelry program at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX.  I moved from Phoenix, AZ where I received my MFA from Arizona State University.  While at ASU, I attended Yuma each year and grew to really enjoy the experience.  During the time in school, I often heard many rumors about how the conference was started and this became the driving force behind wanting to find out more about the actual history.  I hope to share small accounts of the history of the Yuma Symposium, report about the current conference, and begin a dialogue about the other gatherings that make craftspeople feel at home.  Throughout this discussion, please ask questions or enter comments as necessary.  I won't be able to capture all the wonders of Yuma, but I will certainly try to give you the overall picture.

For more information about the Yuma Symposium, please check out their website.

I look extremely forward to your reports. I've never been to Yuma myself, so your introduction and background information is eagerly awaited :-))
