Gray Area Gris, Mexico City 2010

April 12th to 16th 2010
Mexico City

The Otro Diseño, Foundation for Cultural Exchange and Development and the Dutch agency Design Flux, in partnership with a large number of cultural organizations from Latin America and Europe have the pleasure to invite you to take part in Gary Area Gris, Encounter of Contemporary Jewellery between Latin America and Europe.

This extensive, international event encompasses a five day symposium, a series of 8 exhibitions and an array of social activities that bring together visual artists, designers, jewellery makers, academics, researchers and promoters from Latin America and Europe on a stage that stimulates friendly, creative, and engaging discussions, able to create an interdisciplinary frame of reference for contemporary jewellery and its practices within a truly multinational discourse.

Gray Area poses a series of encounters that promote intercultural dialogue within the field of contemporary jewellery and, on its first edition, this dialogue is focused in two continents: Latin America and Europe.

In an era of globalization, cultural reciprocity is fundamental. Learning about others does not only help us to understand and appreciate from what we considered as foreign, but also to learn about ourselves. This symposium aims to promote understanding and appreciation of the diverse ways to view, experience, and create jewellery, to encourage cultural exchange among jewellery makers in Latin America and Europe and to combine forces to expand the audience and market for this exciting discipline.

From April 12th to 16th 2010, the symposium Gray Area will take place in Mexico City’s Historic Center. The lectures will take place at Ex Tersa Arte Actual, Center for Experimental Arts, while the exhibitions will be hosted by museums, galleries, cultural centers and public venues, such as Ex Teresa, Galeria 100M3, Galeria Mexicana de Diseno, Dulceria de Celaya, Ex-Galeria La Refaccionaria, Casa Vecina, among others.

Participants from all over the world are welcomed to attend. We invite you to visit our website to learn more about this exciting event and register to attend the symposium.
