"So when will the book be out?"  I get that question every day now, people are quite excited to get their hands on this book. Trust me, I can barely wait myself. Well, to answer the question: On this…Continue

I've been working on a book for a few years and I know how overwhelming it can be- obviously - key words "few years". I say take a day-cation and treat yourself to something you enjoy and then come back to it. Please know that I appreciate all your efforts in this monumental task and look forward to celebrating the the final outcome. Thank you so much.

Book Update:  Just so that you know I am not sitting on my hands these days... Had a nice chat with my editor this past week to update him on where I am in the process and to ask some questions regarding manuscript formatting. I have to confess that this step is currently really freaking me out quite a bit, because HIC is turning out to be such a CHUNK of a book ... LOADS of work and checking of stuff, lots of t's crossing and i dotting and whatnot... whoa. (Those of you who have done this already - any consoling words for me ? - Misery loves company.)

So, while you guys are being turned loose on your vacations, I am STILL chained to the pc every day to get this done by deadline. The nice part is though the revisiting of all the artists' work and putting it in a somewhat consecutive order, after all, I will need to put up a content page so that people can find stuff ... :-)

Tudelu for now.

I agree, Bettina, Jason Kishell's "smug mug" is a wonderful piece and I had it in mind for the cover from day 1. Once the book is in the design phase, the publisher and his crew will ultimately determine how the book is best marketed and that affects the choice of cover and the "interior design" so to speak. I have and will continue to ask for the smug mug to be on the cover. :-)

Will you keep the smug mug on the cover? It has the element of surprise, a little creepiness (the teeth have gums for god's sake) and even functionality. It's a brilliant piece!

I have made my selections and am currently getting back to all participating artists. This is a time consuming process as I aim to include roughly 250 artists and each has about 1-3 images selected out of a total pool of over 2000 photos I went through.
I want to be 100% precise in what I need from each artist to avoid double work, and I will get back to everyone, even those that I could not fit in this time, hopefully within the next 2-3 weeks depending on how busy I get with crafthaus and all my other projects.
Stay tuned :-)

Update: The deadline for entries has now passed and I am currently wading through the hundreds of images and interesting texts that have come in from all over the world. Thanks to all who submitted!

Expect this to be a fun and unusual book. I will keep you updated as things progress.

An entry just really cracked me up: "Bloody Rotten Metal Class", a poem/folk song about metalsmith students and the things they mess up and ruin in a studio...that's all I am going to say for now....but I do hope to be able to share some "visual spoilers" with you as I go along. The work is un.be.lie.va.ble.

It's been a tsunami of entries since Friday. I am having a blast!

Even with multiple pieces you can submit 2 different ways, and both are fine with me:

- via email (low res images): Either send that to humorincraft@yahoo.com OR if the files get too big for regular email use a free web uploader like yousendit or sendspace. If you have a dropbox account, I can get the files from there too. I reconfirm receipt of every submission, so if you don't hear from me that means I haven't received your files. In that case check back, please.

- via snail mail: Send to

crafthaus

Pittsburgh, PA 15228 (Home of the Steelers)

OK, you don't HAVE to add the Steelers' name but it will get there quicker. Just kidding. :-))
