Images of Creative Communion

For over a year now, I have focused a lot of my energy on working collaboratively with other artists. I am a member of an artists group whose intention is to bring more awareness to art jewellery in Canada, by collaborating with each other and with artists who work in different mediums.  From the time of our first meeting in early 2013, where we just had an idea of working together, interesting, challenging and exciting collaborative projects have continually offered themselves to us.

I love the energy that working with this artists group has brought into my life. In a world that often seems individually focused, it is the collectives, the communions, and the collaborations of which I seek more.

It is my intention to share on this blog images of how creative communion has been flourishing in my life, and how my journey to the “Imagery in Jewelry” workshop will bring me new opportunities for creative communion.

After leaving Touchstone Center for Crafts I spent a restful night in Pittsburgh and then took a very early train to New York City.  A quick nine hours later I was there.  Serendipity is a word that I have used quite a bit in the past number of months of my life.  Ever since I found out about my scholarship and started planning this little adventure I have been carrying around a ripped out page from Metalsmith magazine advertising the…Continue

Finding Creative Communion at Touchstone

Started by Patsy Kay Kolesar Jun 3, 2014. 0 Replies

I spent 9 hours on a train yesterday thinking about my experience at Touchstone and specifically thinking about how Touchstone added creative communion to my life...  The place itself is magic.  I wasn’t expecting it to be so remote even though I knew there were no buses that went to this area.  I’ve been living right downtown in the west end of Vancouver for over 10 years now.  I’m a little city and it usually takes me some time to decompress when I get out of the city.  Touchstone is one of…Continue

I have such a short precious time here and so much to breathe in.  Today was our first full day working in the metals studio with Sharon Massey and Cortland Dewitt.  We are learning and experimenting with etching, decals, and epoxy-resin....It's been a pretty playful workshop.  I have the opportunity here to play with some images that I have been wanting to incorporate into my work for quite a while, but never seem to find the time to do so.  Here are some of the images from my day:…Continue

When you invite things into your life they have an interesting way of just showing up. This adventure is now in full swing for me.  I flew from Vancouver BC, Canada to Minneapolis, MN then onto Pittsburgh, PA yesterday.  I spent the night in Pittsburgh and had dinner at Grit and Grace downtown Pittsburgh where I met a London based artist who's opening up a new art gallery on Penn Ave.  I got a tour of the soon to be opened gallery space, which was amazing and I've made a new wildly creative…Continue

Jewellery + Artists + Collaboration

A clearly stated and consciously shared purpose is the foundation of great collaborations."   -Twyla TharpFor the past year I have been working with two other metal artists on creative collaborations.  We came together because we all had the same purpose.  We wanted to work on interesting projects that brought attention to art jewellery in Canada. Our goal was to create a new way for the public to interact with us, with an approach that would be exciting and engaging for everyone.  …Continue
