Title:  Face to Face

Materials:  Shadowbox: wood, paper, colored pencil.

Brooches: sterling silver, eyeglass lenses, paper, colored pencil, and graphite.

Dimensions:  10" x 9"

Artist Statement:  As I get ready to go out, I look in the mirror only to find that I am face to face with my 'shadow'.  The shadowbox opens from the back to allow for removal of the brooches.

Title:  Vanitas Table Top Mirror    

Materials:  Enamel on copper spun form, mirror, forged steel, billiard balls, tassels on cording with brass finials,and powder coated copper pot.

Dimensions:  39" x 22" x 6"

Artist Statement:  The initial A is homage to my deceased father, Harry Arthur, a pivotal force in my life who only has two daughters and no one to carry on his name.

Materials:  Walnut, bird’s-eye maple, basswood, fabric, mirrors, image transfers.

Artist Statement:  A mirror is a fascinating 'canvas' to not only explore self-observation but the uneasy sense that something, or someone, may only exist within it's realm and not behind us as we look in.

Title:  Conceptual Compact Brooch

Materials:  Sterling silver, loose powder, ribbon and thread.

Dimensions:  5cm x 5cm x 2.5cm

Artist Statement:  Based on a vintage compact, the piece has intrinsically feminine touches that entice the viewer to open it, only to find it is filled with loose powder which spills onto the viewer, acting as a “brooch” on the body.

Artist Statement:  Mirror Pendant is about vanity, observing oneself, checking outer appearances, and comparing oneself to others.  Addressing the issues of body image, aging and the influence of the media.

Artist Statement:  Written on the inside of the legs in tin can lettering:  Botox my Wrinkles,  Airbrush my Imperfections, Reduce the appearance of fine lines, Soft, soft focus perfect lighting, Am I visibly firm

Artist Statement: The body of this lidded vessel is made from figured Mahogany, Jatoba and Cardinal Wood. The vessel is suspended on anodized aluminum posts between Cardinal Wood supports.

Materials:  Laser cut cosmetic sponge, freshwater pearls, ribbon and sterling silver.

Dimensions:  Pendant size: 5.5cm x 5.5cm x 0.5cm

Artist Statement:  50’s boudoir elements combined with a laser cut cosmetic sponge create an ultra feminine piece with a tongue in cheek reminder of the perils of vanity.

About the Curators: Glen Guarino holds a MA in Studio Furniture.  He is an adjunct professor at William Paterson University. Glen was recently honored as a “Signature Artist” at the Noyes Museum of Art as an exemplar of the highest caliber of artistic standards. Guarino’s work is regularly seen in gallery and museum exhibits and in a number of publications. Glen also designs furniture for corporate and residential clients. Marie works with Glen managing the business.
