The curators are busy processing applications received for the Ring a Day SNAG show in May, but I wanted to take a moment to share with you the fun rings that were made to commemorate Halloween.  Colleen Baran posted her picks from this past year on our blog.  (click on the link to see the Colleen's picks) My picks are rings made only on Halloween 2010.

first row:  Rachelle Stromberg aka Mike and Mary Jewelry, Thomasin Durgin aka Metal Riot
second row:  Evelyn Markasky, and Shannon Conrad aka rubygirl

I saw Tomi and Shannon's ring, but somehow missed Rachelle and Evelyn's! So glad to see them here. That Tomi... *shakes head in wonderment*
We don't celebrate Halloween here but it is very interesting to see how jewelers approach this tradition! Very unique and fun rings!
I too had to look up what Halloween is, interesting custom, we have nothing like this in France. Is this like Mayo 5 in Spanish speaking countries?

Anyways, thank you for posting. I certainly learned something new today ! And the work is interesting, I like the spider ring very much.
Halloween is a more familiar term for "All Hallows Eve" the evening before "All Souls Day", a sacred day for Christians to take a moment to remember all those who have died. On Halloween--the evening before "All Souls Day" children dress up in costumes and go from house to house requesting "trick or treat?" and it is custom for the people to give the children candy or other goodies. Tricks are not often favored to candy! Children also carve pumpkins with faces that are lit with candles at night, called "jack-o-lanterns". Halloween is believed to have some sort of ability to blur the veil that divides the living and the dead. Popular images for this holiday are ghosts, witches, vampires, spiders, pumpkins, gouls and other demons. It is a lighthearted holiday in which people enjoy being a little scared. :D

See the wikipedia definition.
Thank you for sharing these information Sara. Death is a taboo and often a sensitive issue in many cultures. Maybe this is why we don't have anything similar here??? I like the idea that people remember those who have died and also have fun while dealing with their fears.
