We're entering that time of the year where deadlines abound, for residencies, scholarships, graduate school and internships. For those of you no longer in academia, here are a few wonderful opportunities you still have time to apply for.

The Penland Residency: This is a very prestigious, three year commitment. Three years to where you're expected to only focus on your work?! Swoon! But it is highly competitive, as well as a big commitment. You can read more about it here. Deadline, January 15.

The Arrowmont Residency: Shorter than the Penland Residency, and geared toward early career artists. The Arrowmont Residency provides housing, and studio space for 9 months, while you focus on your work. Learn more about it here. Deadline February 1.

"Get Lost, Do Art" Case of the Nomads Residency: This is a great little residency put together by professional Nomad, Casey Sheppard. A much shorter time commitment, only a week, this resident will get to hang out with Casey for a week (and India the Adventure Dog, need I say more?) in Joshua Tree, CA, and experience a completely different way of making art. I think this would be a phenomenal opportunity for anyone who's feeling stuck in their studio practice, or who wants to shake things up. Details here. Deadline January 25.

Haystack Open Studio Residency: Haystack offers a two week, open studio residency, Another great short term, but intensive commitment. Details here. Deadline March 1.

If you're not ready for a residency, but are still looking to have a life changing art school experience this summer, there's lots of opportunities for scholarships, work study, and internships.

Penland is offering several internships, many dealing with aspects of arts management. A full list can be found here.Deadline February 1. You can find details on the scholarships available here.

Deadline February 17

Arrowmont has a fantastic summer assistant program where you work for three weeks and then are granted 3 free workshops. They house you and feed you, and the only thing you pay out of pocket is your material fees. There are two 6 week long sessions, or you can apply for the whole 12 weeks. Details on how to apply, as well as the scholarships they have available are here. Deadline for both assistantships and scholarships is March 1.
