FRESHMETALSMITH EXHIBITION IN PRINT 2011

FRESH.jpgThe Society of North American Goldsmiths invites submissions of recent work from the international community of jewelers and metalsmiths to FRESHMetalsmith's Exhibition in Print 2011. Works published will be selected by Lola Brooks, Studio Jeweler and Educator, and Cindi Strauss, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The following guidelines provide information for the submission of digital images to be juried for FRESHMetalsmith Exhibition in Print 2011.

Eligibility:
• Open to all jewelers, designers, and metalsmiths, including students (18 years of age or older).
• Applicants need not reside in the United States.
• All work must be original and produced within the last two years (2009 or later).
• Objects made from commercial kits or commercially available plans are NOT ELIGIBLE.
• Applicants are strongly encouraged, but not required, to apply with images that have not been widely circulated in Metalsmith or other publications.

Requirements:
• Submit all application materials electronically through CaFÉ™ at www.callforentry.org by midnight (11:59:59 pm) Mountain Time, December 10, 2010. Only applications submitted through CaFÉ™ will be accepted.
       o To enter, visit www.callforentry.org, register a username and password, navigate to Apply to Calls, and search the list for Fresh: Metalsmith Exhibition in Print 2011.
       o For detailed instructions on using the site, click on CaFÉ™ Help (www.callforentry.org/cafehelp.phtml). If this page does not address your needs, please contact CaFÉ™ at cafe@westaf.org Monday through Friday, between 8:30 am and 5 pm Mountain Time.
       o Technical support is available until 5:00 pm the day of the deadline via email at cafe@westaf.org.
• The application fee of $35 is non-refundable. There is no additional fee to use the CaFÉ™ online application system. SNAG members may use their coupon code at checkout to receive their $10 discount, available on the SNAG website in the member’s only section. Payments are made via CaFÉ™ website with Visa or MasterCard. Checks are NOT an acceptable form of payment.
• Artists must submit digital images of up to 4 original works (detail views are acceptable, but the maximum number of images that can be submitted, including details, is no more that 4). Artists must submit their images via www.callforentry.org and according to CaFÉ™ specifications. Instructions on how to format images can be found on the CaFE™ website under Image Preparation (https://www.callforentry.org/image_prep.phtml). Entries submitted by any method other than through www.callforentry.org will NOT be accepted.
• All works must be accompanied by title, material, dimensions, and year of completion.
• Artists must submit an artist statement (1000 character limit).
• Artists must submit a one-page resume.
• All decisions of the jurors are final.
• All work must be original. By completing this application, the artist agrees that he/she is responsible for the creation of submitted works.
• By submitting images for possible publication in Metalsmith’s Exhibition in Print 2011, the artist agrees to the following:
       o That Metalsmith magazine and SNAG have the right to retain and duplicate these images for the purpose of marketing and publishing the Exhibition in Print 2011, and for display on the SNAG website and e-newsletters.
       o That the artist requires no compensation or further contact from Metalsmith magazine or SNAG.
       o That the artist agrees to all terms and conditions set forth in this prospectus.

About the jurors:
• Lola Brooks, jewelry designer and educator, has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of the Arts. She was recently the subject of a feature article in American Craft, and her work has previously been showcased in W, Vogue, Blackbook, and Metalsmith.
• Cindi Strauss is Curator of Modern and Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, where she served as curator and catalogue author for Ornament as Art: Avant-Garde Jewelry from the Helen Williams Drutt Collection. Recently, at SNAG’s Houston conference, Strauss gave the popular presentation “At the Crossroads of Trends and Traditions: Emerging American Jewelry Artists Today.”

Calendar:
• Submission deadline: December 10, 2010
• Notification (by email): February 14, 2011
• High-Quality jpegs of accepted work (as specified by email) due to Editor: February 25, 2011
• Exhibition in Print 2011 published: August 2011
