So here we are, brand spanking New Year, and a time when many people are making Resolutions. I find myself moving away from thinking of things in terms of "Resolutions" (with a capital 'R'), and instead setting a series of small, less daunting, more manageable (hopefully) goals.

Of course, some of these goals relate to my studio practice. I want to strive less and make more. I need to spend less time comparing my journey to others and more time focusing on the content of the work. The work is in this interesting, yet delicate flux right now. The book making and the metalsmithing are starting to converge. The aesthetic is shifting, and I'm still trying to figure out what it's all about. Now that I'm back in the south, I'm surrounded by it, but I still can't quite articulate it. I intend to focus on the work, and not so much the results of the work: getting into publications, getting into shows, getting invitations to things. In other words, what starts to feel like the "popularity contest" side of things.

In practice, my goal is to spend a minimum of one hour in the studio per day. For now, in preparation for the ACC Show next month, this will be time spent at the jeweler's bench. An hour may not sound like much, especially during these more relaxed vacation days, but I have quite a few classes on my schedule this spring. I know those days are coming where spending even a hour in the studio instead of in my bed are going to be a real challenge.

So what are  your studio and/or business goals for the coming year? I've already seen a few people on Instagram tackling the "Ring a Day" challenge, and I've love to know what else SNAG members are trying to achieve in 2017 and how we can support each other.

Thanks for reading and have a Happy New Year!
