I'd like to kick off the New Year with a series of posts about SNAG's newest program SNAG Connects. The purpose of SNAG Connects is to bring together members and potential members within their own geographical region. Each region has a volunteer leader in charge of forging these relationships. I'll be doing a short spotlight on each region leader and their plans for the first two years of this program.

First up is Cyd Rowley of the Mid-Atlantic Region (Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington D.C.)

Bio: Cyd Rowley works from her Kensington Maryland studio where she creates sculptural “vessel” pendants inspired by her fascination with containers worn on the body, and with creating pieces that can be personalized, that tell a story, and that provoke conversation and connection with others.  She studied design and jewelry fabrication at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore.  As an independent studio jeweler, her goal is to do work that stretches her professionally, and that is meaningful for the wearer. She is currently a board member of the Washington Guild of Goldsmiths (WGG).
Plans for the Mid-Atlantic Region:
"It’s early days as the SNAG Connects Regional Council has just been established. However, all plans and activities have one overarching objective defined by SNAG, and that is to maximize information and mind share both between SNAG and the Mid-Atlantic members, and between the region’s members themselves.  I see my role as a conduit to promote and facilitate this cross pollination, which will flow in both directions to and from SNAG Head Office and the Mid-Atlantic region.  As the program is currently set up, there are 12 regions, and the representatives will also be sharing info with each other during conference calls, Google Drive documents and events.
For most of us who are artists and makers in the metals community, our tribe is spread out across the country and the world and often many of us work in solitude in our studios.  So it’s important for members to receive a brief “touch” via newsletter, social media, video conference or event to promote a sense of belonging and cohesion.  Just as important is the need for the national organization to understand what it’s members are thinking, doing, experiencing, and what they need from the organization.
In order to promote this, my plan is, at a minimum to:
Send out monthly newsletters with information and opportunities
Speak at schools, workshops, events and meetings to introduce SNAG and the region
Arrange quarterly or bi-annual meet-ups, virtually or in person
Welcome new members in the region
Provide regional info for SNAG’s Riveting News post
Participate in Regional Council meetings & activities
Create a SNAG Connects video from the Mid-Atlantic
Listen to members’ needs and pass them on
I welcome any and all ideas, thoughts, or communications.  I hope information between me and the regional members will flow in both directions as well."
