CALL FOR ENTRY: “Shifting Sites”
Contemporary metalsmithing is a dynamic field, marked by ever-expanding possibilities for the creation and presentation of work. “Shifting Sites,” SNAG’s 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith, will showcase works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that creatively engage with their environment.
For this “Shifting Sites” issue, the emphasis is on location or place as either subject or actual space for the creation and display of work. The jurors welcome works that expand and explore the “where” of contemporary metalsmithing. As a subject for metalsmithing, “site” can be understood as geography, landscape or cityscape and be revealed in imagery or forms that reference natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces. Actual space of a piece can refer to where the idea was realized, the physical location of construction, where it is worn, or where it is displayed or sold.
“Shifting Sites” broadly refers to the changing boundaries in metalsmithing practice.

One of the things I love most about the SNAG community is the diversity of passions, interests and goals of our members. I'm always inspired by the dedication, commitment and persistence of SNAG members in reaching for these goals. If only all of our bank accounts could keep up with our dreams. Here are three awesome SNAG ladies, each with very different aspirations, but all in need of financial assistance.…Continue

SNAG Volunteer Highlight: Sam Mitchell
Sam will be contacting SNAG member galleries shortly to conduct a series of interviews which will then be promoted via Riveting News and on other SNAG communication outlets. Jewelry galleries, want to get an early start on this? Please contact Sam and get your interview date in. First come first serve.
Message me for Sam's email if needed, she's also in the SNAG membership directory.
I need 5 SNAG volunteers, please, to each donate 1-2 hours of their time to make quick and easy phone calls on SNAG's behalf over the course of the next 3 weeks. No fundraising. No cold calls. This is important for SNAG but it won't be hard for you, promise. :-)
Email me via communityliaison@snagmetalsmith.org or message me via crafthaus. THANKS. Brigitte
Hello Everyone! My name is Renee Zettle-Sterling and this is my first letter, of many, to you as president. I would like to start off my first letter by taking a moment to thank a very extraordinary individual in our lives, Dana Singer. Dana will be leaving SNAG this October and she will be deeply missed. Dana was SNAG’s first professional Executive Director and she helped lead SNAG into a new era as an organization. She has been SNAG’s cornerstone for more than fourteen years, making many considerable and generous contributions to this organization by providing vision and much-needed continuity of leadership.
While it is hard to imagine SNAG without Dana, the Board and I believe this will also be an exciting time. It is an opportunity for us to usher SNAG into a whole new era, with different ideas and perspectives. We are currently beginning the search for the new Executive Director, and I have organized a search committee comprised of member-at-large Christine Bossler, ACC Executive Director Chris Amundsen, and Executive Committee members Sue Amendolara, Anne Havel, and me. The posting for the position opens on June 18th and will close July 18th. Based on our timeline we are hoping to have a new ED in place in September.
