SNAG NEWS

CALL FOR ENTRY: “Shifting Sites”

Contemporary metalsmithing is a dynamic field, marked by ever-expanding possibilities for the creation and presentation of work. “Shifting Sites,” SNAG’s 2016 Juried Exhibition in Print produced by Metalsmith, will showcase works that explore the changing spaces of jewelry and objects as they are conceived, made, and displayed. Jurors Eva Eisler, Lauren Fensterstock, and Lori Talcott are seeking examples that creatively engage with their environment.

For this “Shifting Sites” issue, the emphasis is on location or place as either subject or actual space for the creation and display of work. The jurors welcome works that expand and explore the “where” of contemporary metalsmithing. As a subject for metalsmithing, “site” can be understood as geography, landscape or cityscape and be revealed in imagery or forms that reference natural settings, architecture, urban or rural spaces. Actual space of a piece can refer to where the idea was realized, the physical location of construction, where it is worn, or where it is displayed or sold.

“Shifting Sites” broadly refers to the changing boundaries in metalsmithing practice.

One of the things I love most about the SNAG community is the diversity of passions, interests and goals of our members. I'm always inspired by the dedication, commitment and persistence of SNAG members in reaching for these goals. If only all of our bank accounts could keep up with our dreams. Here are three awesome SNAG ladies, each with very different aspirations, but all in need of financial assistance.…Continue
