Founded as a membership association in 1997 and registered as a Limited Company in 2006, it recognises a need to foster discussion, debate and critical review and interaction amongst its members. To this end we organise conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops and an annual general meeting for our members. Our regular newsletter, findings, features reviews, information, comment, book offers and discounts and is of benefit to both our members and the wider public. We also produce a monthly e-bulletin featuring news and opportunities.

We welcome as members practising jewellers, associated designers and crafts people, educators, students, gallery owners and retailers, museum curators, critics and collectors - indeed, anyone with an interest in contemporary jewellery.

Badges & Buttons Waistcoats & Vests

July 11 - August 26, 2012

Curated by Elizabeth Turrell & Robert Ebendorf

Artist Reception Friday, July 13 from 6 to 8 pm

Most of us have at one time or another worn a badge or button. It might have been a Peace Symbol, a Girl Scout pin or badge from your favorite sports team. These are pins with a purpose. They express your political views, belonging to a particular group or just saying "this is who I am". Badges can indicate some feat of service, a special accomplishment or a symbol of authority, such as a policeman's badge. Badges & Buttons Waistcoats & Vests is an exhibition exploring the notion of this modest form of jewelry. Curators Elizabeth Turrell (UK) & Robert Ebendorf (USA) have asked 26 artists, mostly from the United Kingdom and the US, to come up with their own kind of button with a message. The artist badges are displayed on vests or waistcoats – vintage, altered or custom-made clothing puts the jewelry on an imagined wearer.

Participating artists:
Dail Behennah, Michael Brennand-Wood, Stephen Bottomley, Ken Bova, Melissa Cameron, Jim Cotter, Susan Cross, Robert Ebendorf, Beate Gegenwart, Caroline Gore, Jane Harrison, Gretchen Goss, Arthur Hash, Thomas Hill, Timothy Information Limited, Basil Kardasis, Felix Lindner, Megan McGaffigan, Trish O'Hara , Matthew Partington, Maria Phillips, Marissa Saneholtz, Marlene True, Elizabeth Turrell, Jessica Turrell

Exhibiting at this years
Art in Action 2012
Inspired by the simple principle that people are fascinated when artists and craftsmen openly demonstrate their skills and discuss their work, Art in Action was born.

Approximately 25,000 visitors come over four days to learn, buy and enjoy, exhibitions, classes and performances of 400 demonstrating artists, teachers, musicians and performers.

I will be exhibiting for the first time on my solo stand in the busy Market Place Marquee.
