MEMBERSHIP
The Guild is made up of metal arts enthusiasts from a wide range of backgrounds, who are creating a community through sharing news and events, ideas, resources, galleries, techniques and questions about the metal arts. Everyone is welcome to join: from the beginner to the master craftsperson, teachers, and students, metal arts collectors and more. Each member is a vital part in making the Guild work for our community.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Metal Arts Guild of The Bay Area is an independent, non-profit, educational organization founded in 1951 promoting the recognition of metalwork as an art form. The Guild offers Bay Area jewelers and metal artists a network of information, education, and support.
The Guild was founded by a small group of artists working in the relatively new field of art jewelry and metal Founding members include such pioneers in the field as Margaret de Patta, merry renk, Bob Winston, Peter and Virginia Macchiarini and Florence Resnikoff. Today MAG has over 200 members and is comprised of professional and emerging artists, educators, students, collectors, and writers.
MAG distributes a bimonthly newsletter along with frequent email announcements; provides a vehicle for sharing resources (including a library of over 400 books and references), workshops and classes; and has sponsored juried and non-juried exhibitions from 1951 to the present. Exhibitions have been hosted by the San Francisco Art Commission, Bay Area museums, Fort Mason, and more recently by the Oakland Museum's Collectors Gallery, the Richmond Art Center, Blue Room Gallery and Velvet daVinci.
We support the work of outstanding metal artists by awarding prizes at MAG exhibitions, an annual MAG Grant for students and emerging artists, and offering resources and opportunities for our members through our website

A bimonthly newsletter to keep you up to date on what’s happening in the metals community. It contains a calendar of MAG events, gallery exhibitions, workshops and classes, reviews, classifieds and member news. Members are encouraged to submit news, reviews, letters and articles.

Our Web site helps members network with one another. Members may post news events and inquiries, as well as a photo of their work, and links to their own personal web sites. All MAG scheduled events are listed as well as links to other metals guilds around the United States. The web site is constantly being updated.
EXHIBITIONS AND MAG GRANT
The Guild sponsors juried exhibitions that provide members with an opportunity to show work in national and local galleries, museums, art centers, and trade shows. Some of our exhibition venues included the Oakland Museum Collectors Gallery, the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Crafts, SNAG Conference 2003, Velvet da Vinci, and the Richmond Art Center. MAG will give a $300 grant to an outstanding student in 2008. More MAG Grants to come!
MEETINGS AND SOCIAL EVENTS
The Guild also sponsors events and workshops with artists and speakers discussing a wide range of topics relevant to the metal arts, special techniques, business issues and creative development. Annual social events include a summer picnic, tool swap, a library tea party, and a December holiday party with gift exchange. Monthly board meetings are open to any members who would like to get involved and see how the Guild works.
RESOURCE CENTER
The Metal Arts Guild has over 400 books, magazines, videos, catalogs and slides for members to get inspiration, technical advice, history and more. All are available for members to view and borrow.

This is an amazing opportunity to implement that project you've always wanted to do involving your community -- you can live anywhere, you just have to become a MAG member and make sure the project takes place or somehow involves the Bay Area. We look forward to seeing how big people can dream!

DESCRIPTION:
Think outwardly!
MAGgrant 2013 will be awarding $1000 toward a Community based project. This required element of Community Involvement, whether it be the MAG community, or the Bay Area community at large, can be the starting point of an unique vision.Think creatively!
The project could entail an exhibition, an event or happening, an exchange of communities/cities/artists, a publication, a class. MAG is open to all applicable and viable project ideas.
The required element is Community involvement – whether it be the MAG community, or Bay Area community at large. The applicant must be a MAG member but does not have to reside in the Bay Area; however, the project must be actuated in the Bay Area by Oct 2013.
Any proposal submitted may be considered for future MAG programming/MAG Happenings.
A MAG advisor will be assigned to winner to oversee progress of project. Documentation of the project’s process/progress will be expected. The recipient is required to make a presentation to the general membership on their project or their creative process after completion of the project. The presentation is intended to create a dialogue between members and to share experiences. The Guild will archive this presentation and will retain the right to use the presentation material at any future date. Recipients will make arrangements for the presentation with the selection committee after being notified of their award. Depending on the proposal chosen, MAG will lend administrative/promotional support as needed.
ELIGIBILITY:
The grant is open to all who are current or become current MAG members. Projects must have a focus on Community and be actuated in the Bay Area by 2013.

MAG is organizing a group tour for the Margaret De Patta exhibit that's going on at the Oakland Museum. The tour is for Sunday, 2/26 at 11:00am. For more information on Margaret De Patta and the tour, go to the link. http://metalartsguildsf.org/category/events/
Admission is $16 per person, including a docent led tour. Margaret De Patta was one of the founding members of the Metal Arts Guild in San Francisco. Signup deadline has been extended till 2/22. Don't miss out, Margaret's designs are timeless and was considered one of the pioneers of craft art jewelry.
