    Date Letter V for 2020
The inclusion of the date letter in the hallmark started in 1478 (the same year the Assay Office was founded).

It is now a non-compulsory element of the hallmark, but we apply it as standard in our Full Traditional Hallmark. The date letter changes annually on January 1st. The font, case, and shield shape all change so each can only indicate one specific year. All date punches are destroyed at the end of the year. https://www.assayofficelondon.co.uk/hallmarking/uk-hallmarks

Join us for the 2020 SNAG Conference in Philadelphia! The City of Brotherly Love is a supportive hub made up of creatives and entrepreneurs inhabiting studio buildings throughout the City – the streets are small, but they pack in deep.

The theme of SNAG’s 2020 conference symbolizes its host city of Philadelphia and the fields of metalsmithing and jewelry, both of which are constantly evolving with the times; constantly reinventing themselves.

From Grit to Gold: Future Fifty represents the breadth of us coming together after a huge historical evolution (that was not always pretty) and building the future together.

FOCUS ON LETTERING - Sunday 23rd February 2020

Following on from the success of our first Focus on Lettering Course last Autumn we are delighted to be able to offer another opportunity for experienced engravers to learn lettering techniques.

Led by Sarah Hobbs of JJ Bergin, the course will cover mainly two styles, a form of roman and script. The first is very blockish then the other a more cursive style as a contrast. Students who have a natural inclination to be able to draw will find it invaluable. Also we will show how the engraving can be repeated over and over from a master sample.

Do you have jewellery from Funaki you don't wear?
Turn it into a donation for bushfire recovery.

Donate it to our silent auction to raise funds for the CFA and Wildlife Victoria.
We're all feeling overwhelmed at the fires devastating vast swathes of Australia and displacing whole communities, from our precious coasts and farmland to our irreplaceable alpine high country. Business as usual is impossible. We can't replace what's gone, but your jewellery can help support those on the front lines, who are working so hard to save what's left.
Donations of jewellery in good condition* are welcome until Friday 14 February.
Please bring your piece in for us to look at, or email us a picture. If it's suitable, we'll ask you to send it in with any relevant details.
You'll choose to which of our nominated recipients money raised should go: CFA Volunteer Welfare Fund or Zoos Victoria Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund. All proceeds will be donated. (You can also donate via these links directly if you prefer).
The auction will run Monday 2nd - Sunday 8th March and works will be available to view at Gallery Funaki during that week.
Once all jewellery is received and documented, we'll provide more information so you can survey the field and prepare your bids! We hope this will be a rare opportunity to secure a special piece - something perhaps you missed out on the first time - with works from the gallery's own collection also on offer.
Please email Katie at gallery@galleryfunaki.com.au for more information or with any questions. Thank you for your support.
