Automatonophobia

“Oh no Mr. Winkles, we mustn’t. Who would clean up the mess?”

Automatonophobia is the fear of anything that falsely represents a sentient being. This includes, but is not limited to, ventriloquist dummies, animatronic creatures, and wax statues. The fear can manifest itself in numerous ways and the cause is currently unknown. It has been theorized that the fear derives from society's expectations of how human beings should behave and interact. The inanimate objects associated with automatonophobia represent human beings, most being portrayed very realistically, but they do not necessarily behave in as life-like a fashion as real human beings.
